If this is to end in fire, then we shall all burn together. -Thorin Oakenshield, the Hobbit, the Desolation of Smaug.
Silence came over the land of the Twins. All of the Northerners had taken their position, 500 of the best archers on the towers at the front where they were hiding. The Lannisters wouldn't see them when they came. At the other side of the bridge was the rest of king Robb's army, also hidden from sight. They had set the castle ablaze so that it would seem that the Northern army had already left.
The King and his guardian stood behind the gate of the bridge, waiting until their trap would be set in action. Elena was afraid yet she didn't give a sign of it. Robb, on the other hand, was pacing in front of the gate.
"If we lose this war, everything will be lost." He said as he continued pacing.
"Yes." Elena shrugged, clearly not letting her guard down.
"You're not helping." Robb began to pace even faster, his feet stumping on the ground.
"You know, if you're going to stamp just a little bit harder, the Lannisters will probably hear us." Elena mocked him. Her pity for him had already vanished, leaving anger behind. Yet she still protected him. She began to wonder why she even did it. Maybe she was just too loyal for her own good.
"How do we know when they're coming?" Robb chose to ignore her, he knew he would only provoke her anger. If there's anything he learned from the past it's that he shouldn't do that, ever.
"Well, if an army of men who are all wearing heavy armor and riding horses marches down a bridge, you will probably notice." she rolled her eyes. Robb had been searching for faults in their plan, it all seemed too easy.
"Look Robb, I know you're afraid but pacing around looking for mistakes won't help." She looked at him. "Plus, you're irritating me."
"I've lost everyone I hold dear, Elena. Of course I'm overthinking every action I take." Robb came to a stop and hissed at her, his blue eyes burning into hers.
"It won't bring them back. They're gone for good." Elena snapped back. Fear was getting to her, normally she would've never purposely hurt him like this. The ground began to shake and dust was falling off the walls around the gate. A sound like a hurricane grew louder and louder.
"There they are." Elena stated, looking through the holes in the cracked gate. Robb sped towards the gate and also looked through the holes.
"Must be more than 10 000 men." Robb sighed in defeat. "They will never all fit on the bridge."
"Then we will take them down the old fashioned way after we have killed half of them with the trap." Elena easily said. It sounded like she wasn't afraid at all. "Maybe they will fit on there, it's a big bridge after all."
"You really think Tywin Lannister is so dumb he sends his whole army on a bridge with the chance that another army still controls that bridge?!" Robb finally saw the biggest mistake in the plan.
"Good thing Tywin Lannister is back in King's landing." Elena snickered and smirked at Robb. But he wouldn't have it, he was angry at her for being so careless and he was afraid of the battle that was to come.
Elena turned away from the gate and started to walk out of the building.
"Where are you going?" Robb asked in confusion as his eyebrows furrowed.
"I'm taking my position." Elena said without turning around.
"And that is?" Robb questioned, getting irritated by Elena's behavior.
