AMELIA'S POV

Before I knew it, we were at my school. The ride felt so much quicker today, like the car was flying.

"Alright, Amelia, let's go," Austin said softly as he got out of the car.

I quickly hopped out after him, but when I saw Selena in the parking lot, I wasn't in the mood to talk to her. Instead, I started walking towards the school on my own. But before I could get too far, Austin called after me, making me stop and turn around.

"Don't I get a goodbye?" he asked with a smile.

I hurried back over to him and gave him a quick hug.

"Sorry, bye Aussie," I said, feeling a little nervous.

"Bye, Amelia. I'll see you soon," he replied.

I waved one last time before turning back toward the school. I headed straight to the classroom, not wanting to linger in the yard. It wasn't like I was late; we just had the option to either meet in the schoolyard or go straight to the classroom for free playtime. Most of us, including me, chose to go straight to class.

"Good morning, Amelia," my teacher said with a warm smile as I walked in.

"Good morning," I replied, giving her a small smile back.

The rest of the class was already there, enjoying free time, so I hung my bag and jacket in the cubby before joining them. We played quietly until the bell rang. When it did, we all made the "quiet" sign with our fingers and gathered on the carpet, ready for the morning announcements. Once the announcements were finished, our teacher began to speak.

"Alright, boys and girls, good morning. Who can tell me what's happening today?" she asked, looking around the room.

Hands shot up all around me, and she called on me.

"Amelia," she said.

"My brother is at the school today," I said, feeling a bit nervous.

"Yes, he is. And why is that?" she asked kindly.

"For flu vaccinations," I answered, quietly.

"That's right. And what exactly is a vaccination? Do you know?" she asked, her voice gentle.

"A needle," I replied, unsure if that was the right answer.

"Very good, Amelia," she said, smiling. "A flu vaccination is another way of saying a flu shot, which is a needle."

We talked for a bit about the importance of getting flu shots, and just as the conversation was wrapping up, the announcement came on that it was time for our class to head to the library.

"Speaking of flu shots, can everyone please line up at the door?" our teacher said.

We all made the quiet sign again, standing up and lining up silently. Our teacher led us out of the classroom and down the hall to the library, where we all sat on the floor against the bookshelves. I was at the back of the line, and honestly, I wasn't complaining. The longer I could stay away from the shots, the better.
