AMELIA'S POV

"Alright, kindergarteners, listen up please," Miss Marks called, making the "quiet" sign, which we all quickly followed.

"This is Austin, Amelia's older brother, and this is his nurse, Selena. I want you all to be on your best behavior for them today. After you're done, come back and sit on the carpet, and we'll wait for everyone to finish before heading back to the classroom," she said, and we all nodded in agreement.

"Alright, they're all yours," Miss Marks said, turning to my brother.

"Thanks," Austin replied with a soft smile.

"Okay, we can do two at a time," Austin said gently.

At the front of the line were Heather and Lizzy. Austin called Heather first, so she went with him, and Lizzy followed Selena to the other station.

HEATHER'S POV

I was first in line for the flu shot today, and honestly, I was a little nervous. I hated needles. I saw Austin almost every day since Amelia was my best friend, and their families worked together. But knowing him so well actually made this moment a little more awkward. I nervously followed Austin to his station, where Lizzy was already sitting down with Selena. I climbed into the chair and tried to calm myself down.

"Alright, Heather, I'm just going to start by cleaning your arm, okay?" Austin said, trying to sound reassuring.

"Okay," I whimpered nervously, feeling the cool wipe on my arm.

"You're alright, hun," he said gently, wiping away the alcohol wipe.

"Do I really have to get it?" I asked, my voice small.

"I'm sorry, Heather, but yes," Austin said softly. "But I promise, it'll be over quick. I'm going to be super fast."

He gripped my arm gently, making sure I stayed still.

"Are you ready?" he asked, his voice still kind.

"No, not really," I replied, my heart racing.

"It'll be alright," Austin said, uncapping the needle. "It'll just be a quick pinch."

Before he could even bring the needle near my arm, I started pulling away.

"Heather, I need you to stay still, honey. I know you're scared, but this is going to be really fast," he said sympathetically.

"I don't like needles!" I whined.

"I know, sweetie," he said gently. "How about we talk about something to distract you? It might help."

"No, thank you," I said, shaking my head.

"Oh my goodness, that's such a cute dog!" Austin suddenly said, pointing off to the side.

I turned to look where he was pointing, just as the needle went into my arm. I yelped in surprise, tears welling up instantly.

"I'm sorry, sweetheart," Austin said, pulling the needle out quickly. "It's all done now."

I whimpered, still in shock.

"You tricked me," I said, my voice trembling.

"I know, I'm sorry, but look it's all done now," Austin said, gently putting a bandaid on my arm. "You did so good."

I slowly got up and walked over to the carpet, wiping my tears away. I hated shots, and now, I couldn't help but feel a little differently about Austin. It was hard to see him as just my friend's brother after that.

LIZZY'S POV

I wasn't looking forward to this at all. I knew what was coming, Austin was there, and Selena was the one who had given me every shot I'd ever had. I hated them. I hated needles more than anything in the world, and I couldn't stand the thought of getting another one. Every time I had to go through it, I felt like I was going to lose control, and I could already feel the panic rising in my chest.
