AMELIA'S POV

I was lying in bed, aimlessly scrolling through my phone, just trying to pass the time when I suddenly heard a soft knock on my door.

"Come in," I called out, not thinking much of it.

I assumed it was either Taylor or Selena since they were the only two who ever really dropped by my room unannounced. To my surprise, the door creaked open and Austin stepped inside, closing it quietly behind him. I sat up, slightly taken aback.

"Oh, hey Austin," I greeted, trying to sound casual, though I couldn't help but feel a little nervous.

"Hey, Amelia. You free to talk for a minute?" he asked, his voice soft but serious.

I paused, unsure of what to make of this.

"You never want to talk to me," I said with a hesitant laugh. "What's up?"

Austin looked at me with a more thoughtful expression, then stepped further into the room, taking a deep breath.

"I'm sorry about that. It's just... I think it's time for your physical, and I really think we should talk before we head out."

I let out a long sigh, rolling my eyes and flopping back onto my bed.

"Of course, the only time you ever want to talk to me is when it involves doctor appointments," I grumbled, feeling the familiar frustration bubble up inside me.

Austin's tone softened.

"Amelia, I know it's not always fun, but I just want to make sure you're healthy. It's important."

I could feel my patience wearing thin.

"Yeah, yeah," I muttered, avoiding his eyes as I stared at the ceiling. "But I'm not answering any of your stupid questions, so you can just skip that part."

"What stupid questions?" Austin asked, sounding genuinely confused.

"You know exactly what I mean," I said, sitting up again, crossing my arms. "Like the ones about my cycle and... whatever else you think is your business. It's none of it. Honestly, I'd rather talk to a girl about that stuff, not you."

Austin sighed but didn't push the subject.

"Okay, okay, I get it. I'm not trying to make you uncomfortable. But what if we do this: I won't ask you anything personal. We'll just do the physical, and we'll be done. Quick and easy. You won't have to worry about a thing."

I raised an eyebrow, feeling a glimmer of hope.

"Can I get out of the shots and the blood work, too?" I asked, testing my luck. There was no way he'd say yes.

Austin looked at me for a moment, his gaze thoughtful, before breaking into a small, almost reluctant smile.

"You want to skip the needles and blood work?" he asked, as if considering it. "Fine, we'll keep it simple. No needles, no questions. Just a quick check-up and we'll head home."

My eyes widened in disbelief.

"Really? You'll just let me go without all that?" I asked, feeling a sense of cautious relief.

"Yeah, that's the deal," he said, nodding. "Just the physical. No extra stuff. No drama."

"Okay... I'm in," I said, slowly standing up, still a little skeptical but also grateful for the small win.

I needed a break from all the typical doctor appointment stress.

"Perfect," Austin said, looking pleased. "I'll meet you in the car in ten minutes."

As he left my room, I couldn't help but feel a little suspicious. Austin had never been this willing to skip the usual checks, especially when it came to blood work and shots. I knew he cared about my health, but something about how easily he agreed to this made me uneasy. Was he hiding something, or was he just in a rush today? Either way, I was getting out of it for now, and that was all that mattered. I quickly grabbed my jacket and headed downstairs to meet him, but the nagging feeling in my gut wasn't going away.
