AMELIA'S POV

I'm sitting in the dental chair, my body tense and coiled like a spring. The sterile smell of antiseptic fills the air, and the bright overhead lights feel like a spotlight on my anxiety. Today was supposed to be just for the twins, instead here I am facing my fear once again. After Taylor and Abby finished Paige and Dallas's checkups Taylor pulled me aside

"You're overdue for your checkup" she said, her smile both familiar and reassuring

"Since you're already here, how about we take care of it now" she asks

I hesitated, my heart pounding. The thought of sitting back in that chair while the drill buzzed ominously felt like a nightmare

"I-I don't know" I stammered glancing towards the door where my husband had taken the twins to find toys

"Amelia I promise it'll be quick and easy, you've got this I'll be right here with you the whole time" she said, her tone inviting yet firm

"Okay, let's do it" I finally managed, my voice barely above a whisper

As she prepared for my checkup I gripped onto the armrests like they were the only thing keeping me grounded as Karlie entered the room with a warm smile.

"Hey Amelia ready to get started" she asked, her upbeat demeanour was contagious and I found a little comfort in her presence

"Just a quick cleaning first" Taylor said, adjusting the dental light

"And then we'll see if we need to do anything else" she added

"Exactly, your in great hands let's make this nice and easy for you" Karlie chimed in

"Just focus on me, I'll guide you through everything" Taylor said, her tone slicing through my spiralling thoughts

The cleaning began with a standard assessment

"I'll just check your gums first" Taylor said

With her mirror and explorer she gently examined each tooth, her movements precise yet careful. I flinched as she probed a particularly sensitive area

"You've got some inflammation here but don't worry we'll take care of that" she noted

Karlie stood nearby holding and handing tools and keeping an eye on me

"You're doing great Amelia just remember to breathe you've got this" she encouraged, her smile being encouraging

Then came the ultrasonic scaler, the tool I had come to dread. The high pitched white set my nerves on edge

"This is just going to help me remove all that plaque" Taylor explained as I focused on her face trying to ground myself

"Take a deep breathe, in through your nose and out through your mouth you're doing really well" Karlie said gently

As Taylor worked the vibrations resonated in my teeth, an odd sensation made my heart race

"You're doing great, just think about something happy, like how well the twins did today" Taylor said sensing my unease

I tried to picture Paige and Dallas giggling in the waiting room, their bright smiles a reminder of why I need to take care of myself

"You're right" I murmured, but the anxiety still coiled tightly in my chest

"Now we'll move onto polishing" Taylor said, switching to a different tool that emitted a whirring sound

The gritty paste it used still made me uneasy
