TAYLOR'S POV
I was dreading this phone call more than I cared to admit. I sat at my desk, flipping through the patient files, each one reminding me of the long list of people overdue for their cleanings. Of course, one of the names that stood out was Selena's. It had been a while since her last visit, and I knew this wasn't going to be easy. Selena has always had a bit of a phobia when it comes to the dentist—understandably, given her past experiences. I hated the idea of putting her in a position where she'd be anxious or upset, but I knew she needed to come in for a cleaning. I'd seen her fight against her fear before, but the real challenge was getting her through the front door of the office. Once she was here, I was confident I could make her feel comfortable and get her settled into the chair, but I couldn't do that unless she agreed to come. I took a deep breath, steeling myself for what was to come, and picked up the phone. Dialing her number, I couldn't help but feel a knot tighten in my stomach. This wasn't going to be fun.
**TAYLOR AND SELENA'S PHONE CALL**
Selena: Hello?
Taylor: Hey, Sel, it's Taylor. Sorry, I'm calling from my office line. How are you doing?
Selena: Hey, Tay! No worries. I'm alright, how about you?
Taylor: I'm good, thanks. Hey, listen, I was hoping I could get your help with something.
Selena: Yeah, of course! What's going on?
Taylor: So, Austin hasn't been to a doctor since his last appointment with you, when you saw all of us. I was wondering if you could meet me at my clinic to discuss it in person? I'd prefer to do it here where Austin won't overhear our conversation.
Selena: Yeah, sure. I can come over now if that works for you.
Taylor: Amazing, thanks, Sel. See you soon!
Selena: See you soon, Tay.
**END OF CALL**
I let out a deep breath once I hung up. Technically, I hadn't lied about Austin. He hadn't been to any other doctor since his last visit with Selena, but that wasn't really the point. I had used the situation to get her into my office, and I couldn't help but feel guilty for having to trick her. I knew that if I were upfront with her about the cleaning, she wouldn't have agreed to come in. But deep down, I also knew that it was the only way I could get her to step through the door. I quickly entered her name into the schedule, making sure to mark it as an appointment for Austin, so the front desk wouldn't get suspicious. I asked them to let me know when she arrived, but not to mention it was actually for Selena. It felt underhanded, but it was the best option I had. I just hoped everything would go smoothly, once she was here, I could work my magic and ease her fears. But getting her here was the hard part. I glanced at the clock, my nerves tightening in anticipation. Hopefully, this wouldn't be a disaster.
