AMELIA'S POV

The aroma of roasted chicken filled the air, mingling with the laughter and chatter of my family as they settled into my home for the get-together. I had spent the whole day preparing, ensuring everything was perfect. My mom's famous potato salad sat chilling in the fridge, and the dessert table overflowed with treats. As the evening progressed, I felt a rush of warmth and joy seeing my relatives gathered together. My younger cousins darted around the living room, chasing each other, while the adults reminisced about old family stories. I leaned back in my chair, enjoying the chaos, but a sudden throb in the back of my jaw jolted me from my thoughts. At first, I dismissed it, attributing it to stress or fatigue. However, as the night wore on, the pain intensified, radiating through my jaw and into my temples. I tried to ignore it, laughing along with my family, but the discomfort kept tugging at my attention.

"Hey, are you okay?" My older sister, Taylor, appeared beside me, her dentist instincts kicking in.

I forced a smile, hoping to brush her off.

"Yeah, just a little tired," I lied, but I could see the concern in her eyes.

Taylor had always been perceptive, especially when it came to health.

"Amelia," she pressed gently, "you're not fooling me. What's wrong?"

"It's just my jaw," I admitted quietly. "I think my wisdom teeth are coming in, and it hurts."

"Let's get you checked out tomorrow," she suggested.

My heart sank at the thought of dental work. What if it meant extractions? I nodded, grateful for her concern but also anxious about what that might mean for me. As the night continued, I found myself distracted by the pain, hoping it would subside. I glanced around at my family, the love and laughter surrounding me, but the gnawing ache wouldn't let me enjoy it fully.
