AMELIA'S POV

"Teffy, do I really have to?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper, filled with fear.

She looked at me with that calm, understanding gaze, but it didn't help the storm swirling in my stomach.

"Sweetheart, you want the pain to go away, don't you?" Her voice was soft but steady, the words gentle but firm.

I nodded slowly, my throat tight as I tried to suppress the tears threatening to spill.

"Y-yeah," I answered quietly, hating how small and scared I sounded.

"Well, honey," she continued, her tone soothing but resolute, "the only way to make that pain stop is to let me fix your tooth."

I swallowed hard, the idea of sitting in that chair, unable to escape, terrified me more than the pain in my mouth.

"I-is it going to hurt?" I whispered, barely able to make eye contact with her, the anxiety rising in my chest like a wave.

Taylor's expression softened, and she leaned down to meet my gaze.

"No, princess," she said gently, reaching out to touch my arm. "I'll explain everything as we go along, okay? You're not alone in this. I'm here, and I'll be gentle."

I nodded, though the knot in my stomach felt like it was only getting tighter.

"Okay," I managed to say, but it was shaky, uncertain.

"Can you come take a seat for me?" she asked, her voice still kind, but there was an unmistakable authority in it now, urging me to move.

I looked at the chair, feeling my heart race. The thought of sitting there, strapped in, unable to move while something went inside my mouth, made my chest feel tight. Slowly, I nodded and shuffled over to the chair. As soon as I sat down, it tilted back, and I felt a cold rush of panic flood over me, like I was being trapped. My legs felt weak, and I clenched my fists to keep from shaking too much.

"Alright," Taylor's voice broke through my rising panic. "We're going to go ahead and get started. First, I'm just going to rub a numbing gel on your gums, okay?"

I barely heard her, my mind racing. I just nodded, opening my mouth wide. The gel was cold and strange, and it sent shivers down my spine as she smeared it across my gums. It felt like the seconds were dragging on forever. I closed my eyes tightly, trying to shut out everything but the sensation of her hands, but the overwhelming fear made everything seem too much. I could feel my heart thudding loudly in my chest.

Once she finished, I heard her reach for something, the sounds of the dental tools making my body stiffen with dread.

"Can you just close your eyes for a moment, hun?" Taylor asked, her voice soft but insistent.

I froze.

"No," I whispered, shaking my head slightly, panic bubbling up inside me.

I didn't want to close my eyes. If I couldn't see what was happening, it would make it worse. The fear gnawed at me.

"It's okay, princess," she reassured me, her tone so calm it was almost unreal. "I just need you to close your eyes for a quick minute, alright? I'll let you open them again soon."

The last thing I wanted to do was give in, but there was nothing I could do. I felt trapped. My hands were still gripping the armrests of the chair so tightly that my knuckles were turning white, but that didn't stop the cold sweat from forming on the back of my neck. I squeezed my eyes shut, praying that everything would just go away. I wanted to disappear. Karlie came over and sat next to me, her hands gently but firmly pressing down on mine. The weight of her grip was grounding, but it didn't stop my heart from racing even faster.
