(I got a request for Hailey comforting Vanessa or Jay, and I'm not ready to write Jay being comforted yet, I'm still trying to figure out how I wanna do that, so here's Upstead comforting Vanessa)

After the whole thing with having to shoot Sammy, Vanessa was a mess. The questions from headquarters had shaken her up and she'd nearly thrown up from the stress afterwards. She got home before Hailey and went and showered then pulled on her comfiest clothes and curled herself up on the couch as she looked through Netflix.

She startled when Hailey came in, she'd been zoned out and didn't hear her phone vibrate when Hailey said she was on the way or hear her drive up.

"V, hey, just me," Hailey put her hands up and made sure her roommate saw her before she went any closer. She knew Vanessa was on edge and not to scare her.

The two of them were very similar in that way. They both had a rough time growing up with Hailey's abusive father and Vanessa in the foster system. Vanessa had been hurt many times as well and was working on actually letting herself feel at home living with Hailey and not hiding her stuff in one space. The two were like sisters at that point, Vanessa and Hailey had even started sleeping in each other's rooms one night every few weeks to have the slumber party experience neither one had growing up. They had learned how to comfort each other and when they needed help from someone else (like when Hailey's dad had shown up and hurt her not long after Vanessa came to live with her and she'd had to call Jay for help). They had a rhythm.

"V, you okay?" Hailey sat on the coffee table and observed the younger girl.

"I shot him," she mumbled, eyes filling with tears once again and she hid behind the throw pillow she was holding to her chest.

Hailey frowned, yeah, she'd seen Vanessa upset and scared, but for her to be curling in on herself crying was new. She moved and sat on the edge of the couch and placed a hand on Vanessa's back.

"Ness, he's gonna be okay, Jay's there now, he's set to make a full recovery. It's gonna be okay," she rubbed Vanessa's arm and tried to look at her face, but the younger girl was too hidden in the pillow.

The only reason Hailey knew she was still crying was because of the way her shoulders were moving. Both of them were masters at silent tears, but Hailey was learning she didn't always have to be silent and how unhealthy it was to hold it in. Vanessa had no idea and was still nervous about showing any emotions infront of others.

"Vanessa, honey, please look at me," she coaxed, trying to pull the pillow away from her face. Vanessa reluctantly looked up at Hailey, face soaked from her tears.

"Hey," Hailey smiled softly and moved the hair from Vanessa's cheeks. "Take a deep breath, okay?" Hailey took one and Vanessa followed suit. "Good. Have you had dinner?"

"No, I'm not hungry," she sniffed.

"I know, girl, but you have to eat something. Jay offered to bring Bartoli's by if we wanted, do you want me to text him or do you want a night that's just us?" She asked, still rubbing her back.

"He was with Sammy?" Vanessa asked, sitting up a little and pulling her knees to her chest.

"Yeah, he was,"

"He can come. But can we have ice cream?" Hailey laughed and hugged her.

"Yes, we can have ice cream," Vanessa smiled a little and Hailey shot a text to Jay asking him to grab a pizza and chocolate-peanut butter ice cream.

"He'll be here in about 35 minutes. I'm gonna go change, I'll be right back," Vanessa nodded and felt anxiety bubble in her chest when Hailey disappeared upstairs.
