(Hailey gives it her all tackling a perp and the gravel isn't her friend. Jay is there to help with the aftermath. Set early season 9.)
——
"STOP RUNNING!" Hailey yelled as she chased their perp through an alleyway.
He didn't stop and Hailey sped up, took all her momentum, and tackled him to the ground, hard. "STAY DOWN!" She yelled when he tried to fight her as she cuffed him.
"LISTEN TO HER!" Jay yelled, holding his shoulder down.
Hailey finished cuffing him and moved away to sit on the gravel, suddenly realizing the pain in her right side. Jay saw that she wasn't getting up and passed him to Kevin so he could check on Hailey.
"Hailey, you okay?" He asked and Hailey looked up. Jay saw the blood on her chin, cheek, arm, and soaking through her jeans.
"The gravel," she said quietly. He could tell she was trying not to cry, but some of these scrapes looked pretty deep and he'd been cut up by gravel before. It hurt.
"Hey, it's okay. I can see it got you good, Hails. Come on, let's get you back to the district to get cleaned up," she nodded a d he helped her stand up.
Hailey gasped at the discomfort she felt when she tried to walk. "If you need to hold my arm, it's here," Jay whispered.
She nodded and grabbed it, holding on as they walked back to the truck. "Woah, Hail, are you okay?" Kim asked.
"I'm fine," Hailey told her as she got in the truck.
Jay went around and drove her back to the district. When they got there, Jay led Hailey up to the locker room and shut the door. Hailey went and sat on the bench and started to get her vest off.
"Let me help, babe," Jay said as he walked back to her with a first aid kit.
"Okay," she sighed, still trying not to cry. Everything stung.
Jay got her vest off and knelt down infront of her with some damp paper towels. "I'm just going to clean up your arm and face, then we'll get your jeans off and clean up your leg. Are you okay?" He asked, watching her face as he cleaned the blood off her arm.
Her forearm was covered in rough scrapes and cuts. "I-I'm okay. It just burns," she said quietly. Jay could tell she was really just trying to hold it together.
"I'm here," He squeezed her leg gently and kissed her before he went back to cleaning her arm.
Hailey let a couple of tears fall when he used a disinfectant on her arm, it STUNG, and Jay felt bad for adding to her discomfort. "I know, I know. I'm sorry, but we can't let it get infected," he rubbed her left arm ad he spoke.
"It's fine, I'm just being a baby," she mumbled, getting a handle on her emotions.
"Hailey, you just tackled a guy over twice your size and basically skidded across gravel during the tackle. Any of us would be in pain if we'd done it. It's okay to show that. You're not a baby," he said seriously, holding eye contact.
"Okay, yeah, you're right," Hailey sighed as she nodded. Jay was right, falling on gravel hurt anyway, but to fall on gravel and basically slide while taking down someone who had over 100 pounds on you, that was a whole new level of pain.
"Here, take some ibuprofen," Jay grabbed some from her locker and gave her two pills.
"Thank you," she breathed.
"Anytime. I'm going to take a closer look at these scrapes, make sure there's no dirt or gravel in them," she nodded.
Jay took the time to check each cut on her arm, and did have to use the tweezers to get gravel out of a few, which he could tell added to Hailey's pain. "I'm done with your arm forearm, it's okay," he kissed her again and bandaged that part of her arm.
