(Hailey's struggling.) (is anyone else as mad at the writers as I am?)
——
After leaving the jail, Hailey couldn't contain her tears anymore. She was still deeply hurt by what Jay had done. And mad. And confused. And anxious, and about a million other emotions she couldn't possibly begin to name. It HURT.

Her goal was to distract herself with work and maybe request OT, or just drive all night because home was too painful once again. She got to the district without remembering how, and she forced herself to calm down and stop crying. It worked, and she went inside.

What she wasn't expecting was the wave of emotions that hit when she got upstairs and saw Jay's empty desk. Without looking at anyone, she bolted to the locker room and dropped to the floor in a hidden spot, overcome with sobs.

The rest of the team looked at each other, and Trudy game them a weird look when she came upstairs to give them something. "What's up?" She asked, seeing that they all looked confused.

"Hailey just bolted for the locker room, I'll go check on her," Kim said, getting up to go see if her friend was alright.

"I'll be in in a moment," Platt said, watching Burgess rush down the hall.

"Hail?" Kim called out as she pushed the door open. "Hailey, it's just me. Are you okay?" She walked in and looked around, almost missing Hailey.

"Hail?" She asked as she approached the blonde. Hailey had curled herself into the corner between lockers and had her face hidden in her knees. "Hey, what's wrong?" Kim knelt down but didn't touch Hailey yet; she didn't want to scare her with unexpected contact.

Hailey shook her head and Kim heard her let out a quiet sob. She knew Hailey was an expert in quiet crying, which broke her heart. "I can't help if I don't know what's wrong," she prodded. Hailey sobbed again and tried to move away from Kim. She didn't want to acknowledge this.

"Okay, then I'm just going to wait here with you," the brunette decided and sat against the wall, giving Hailey a little space.

Hailey hadn't moved or said a word when Platt came in, eyes widening in alarm when she spotted them. "What happened?!" She asked, rushing over.

"I don't know, she hasn't said anything. She's really upset about something though," Kim shrugged, feeling helpless.

Trudy nodded and observed Hailey for a moment. She was crying, despite the silence, Trudy could tell. Her body language radiated fear, and she was tapping her ring.

"Hailey, honey, are you hurt?" She asked, lowering herself to the ground.

Hailey seemed to relax when she heard the woman's voice. It was a sound she associated with safety and strength, and even love. All things she was desperately craving. She shook her head a little and sobbed loudly.

"Okay, that's good. What's going on?" She asked, watching as Hailey scooted closer the her and Burgess.

The blonde took a deep breath and spoke through a sob. "He extended."

The other women looked at each other, confused for a moment. Hailey picked up on their silence. "Jay," she cried.

It clicked for them and they were furious. He'd extended his duty, and Hailey was devastated.

"He didn't tell me! I had to find out by calling the base! He won't answer me! I need him! I need him back!" Hailey finally lifted her head up and yelled through her tears, breaking down even more when she finished speaking.

Trudy and Kim both wrapped her into a hug, vowing to kill Jay when he got home. Hailey didn't deserve this.

Hailey hugged Kim for a second but quickly clung to their desk sergeant. Her first source of safety in her life. Trudy didn't move until Hailey did.
