(Set season 6)
Hailey had struggled with migraines since she was in grade school, and she truly believed they came from hell. Sometimes they only happened when she was really stressed, but normally they were random and she absolutely hated it. Nothing seemed to truly help, she just had to ride it out until the pain subsided and she could keep down medicine.
——
Hailey woke up one morning and was still tired, but she felt fine after she'd gone to bed with a headache. So, she hopped in the shower and got ready for work.
When she got to the district, she went upstairs and got to work with her team, they were continuing a case they'd caught the day before and were getting ready to go follow up on some leads.
She and Jay ended up chasing a guy three blocks and Hailey had to tackle him, the force of which giving her a dull headache.
"You okay?" Jay asked, noticing her rolling her neck and rubbing her head.
"Went a little hard and my headache from yesterday resurfaced, I'm good. I just need some ibuprofen," she brushed it off as they walked back to the truck.
"You had one yesterday, too," he commented and she shrugged.
"I'm tired and haven't had enough water. I'll get a gatorade at the district," she told him as they got in and left.
Jay nodded and Hailey got a gatorade from a vending machine then went and got some ibuprofen from her locker. It went away and she was glad, it made interrogations easier without her head hurting.
But then they closed the case and were doing paperwork. She hadn't realized the dull pain starting behind her eyes again until she started typing and the words were blurry. She blinked a few times and looked around. Her vision wasn't bad, she just couldn't see the words right and was getting dizzy.
"Oh no," she whispered. She was getting a migraine, a bad one. Her vision only blurred and she only got dizzy with the really bad ones.
Tears welled in her eyes and she covered her face with her hands, trying to calm down. This hadn't happened at work since she'd switched units, she couldn't even remember if anyone in the unit knew she got migraines. Voight and Platt knew, it was in her file, Jay knew she got really bad headaches, but beyond that she wasn't sure.
Jay noticed her shift in demeanor before he saw the tears in her eyes. "Hailey, what's wrong?" He asked over the top of his computer.
Suddenly it was like every noise hurt and her head was exploding. She went into the break room and sat down, shutting her eyes and trying not to cry. She needed to go home but she couldn't drive.
"Hailey, talk to me, what's going on?"
Jay had followed her when he saw how pale she was and that she was about to cry.
"Migraine," she whimpered quietly.
"Damn, how long has this been building?"
He asked.
"Dunno. Didn't hurt bad till just now, got dizzy and things were blurry," she whispered.
"Okay, lay down for a second. Do you have anything you can take?"
"Meds are in my locker," she whimpered as she moved. Jay squeezed her shoulder then turned off the lights and shut the door as he went to go get her meds.
"Jay, what's going on?" Kim asked.
"She's got a really bad migraine," he said as he jogged to the locke room.
He came back with the bottle and went into the break room. "Hey, take these. I'm gonna go talk to Voight and take you home," she gave him a thumbs up and took them.
