"Hailey, are you still coming tonight?" Vanessa asked as she and Hailey left the house for work.
"Yeah, I am. Are you excited?" Hailey looked over at the younger girl, who smiled and nodded quickly.
"Yes! I never got to go to this stuff," Vanessa was bouncing around like a little kid.
"I didn't get to go often. It's going to be fun to go, even if we look ridiculous as a group of adults at a carnival," Hailey laughed as they got in her Jeep.
"You know we're all basically children, right?" Vanessa gave her a look and she busted out laughing.
"Very true," Hailey laughed and started driving to the district.
The unit was planning to go to a carnival for fun. They'd had it planned for a while and were all excited to relax and have a great night together. And Hailey and Vanessa hadn't had many experiences like that growing up, so it was something they'd both really wanted to do.
After work that evening, everyone went to get dinner and then headed to the carnival on the pier. It was crowded and filled with rides and games and food.
"What do you want to do?" Jay asked Hailey.
"I don't know," Hailey's eyes were wide and she looked around in amazement, though she was a little overwhelmed.
"Here, let's go do some games first," Jay directed her towards one as Kevin and Vanessa went to the rides and Kim and Adam went for food.
A couple hours later, they'd taken some pictures together as a unit and had all been laughing and really enjoying themselves. "Hails, let's go do the ferris wheel. The view is amazing," Jay suggested.
Hailey eyed it warily but nodded. She didn't want to admit that she was claustrophobic and didn't just live heights. But she'd never been able to do it as a kid and she'd wanted to.
"Hail, we just did it and Kev and V are on it now. It's great," Kim told the blonde.
"Okay, let's go," Hailey smiled and followed Jay to the line.
They talked while they waited and all too soon, it was their turn. Hailey took a deep breath as she stepped into the box and the door was shut.
"You okay?" Jay asked, noticing Hailey was nervous.
"Yeah, it's fine," Hailey breathed out and rubbed her hands on her jeans.
"You sure?" Jay rose an eyebrow at her.
"I'm fine," Hailey insisted.
Jay knew she wasn't but nodded and started talking about random stuff. Hailey relaxed a little bit and took in the view. It really was gorgeous. She took a picture on her phone and was smiling, which Jay snapped a picture of, right before they came to a halt.
"Jay!" Hailey gasped, reaching for his hand in panic. They were at the very top.
"Hey, it's okay. Someone might need help getting on or off, we'll start up again in a moment. It's okay," he was surprised to see how scared his partner was. She wasn't normally scared so easily.
"Okay," Hailey nodded but didn't let go of Jay's hand and she closed her eyes.
Jay could feel her hand shaking slightly and felt bad. "Hails, what's been the most fun tonight?"
