Oakley's First Day

(Oakley Mae Halstead is now 3 and a half, and it's her first day of pre-school... needless to say, Hailey and Jay are pretty emotional about it, and Oakley is, too. ALSO, requests involving Jackson and Emma are welcome as well!)

The day had finally come. Oakley's first day of pre-school. Jay and Hailey were both complete wrecks as they got ready for the day. They'd stayed up late looking at baby pictures of her and cried because they weren't sure how she was already old enough for school.

Oakley was excited. She had a new outfit and pretty white sandals to wear to school. And she loved her princess backpack (or pack-pack as she called it) and lunch box. Her nap mat was pale pink and she loved the fuzzy blanket attached to it. So she couldn't wait to actually use everything, and it had taken Hailey and Jay nearly two hours to get her to stay in bed and go to sleep.

"It's not like we've never been away from her, why am I so emotional?" Hailey asked as she wiped her eyes so she could finish putting on a small amount of makeup.

"Because it's a big milestone. But one of us will pick her up and bring her to the district when she's done, so she'll be back with us by 2:45. Voight's letting us leave early with her, too. It'll be good, and she's been excited and loved meeting her teacher the other day. But I'm feeling it, too," Jay admitted as he rubbed Hailey's arms and kissed the back of her head.

"You're right. Can you go wake her?" Hailey asked and Jay nodded.

He went into Oakley's room and took a picture before he woke her. "Oakley, time to get ready for school, kiddo," he said and she shot up with a smile.

"I get to weaw my new ow-fit?" She asked.

"Yup! Let's get you dressed and we can go eat breakfast with mama," Jay smiled back and Oakley hopped out of her bed and Jay helped her get her shirt off then slipped the pale pink shirt she had picked over her head. Next, they got her pajama pants and pull up off and Jay handed Oakley her underwear and helped with the light denim overall dress she'd begged for.

"Go throw that pull up away before you go find mama," Oakley nodded and ran into her bathroom before she ran to the kitchen and barreled into Hailey's legs.

"Well good morning my big girl!" Hailey scooped her up and tickled her belly, making Oakley burst into a fit of giggles.

"Mama!" She laughed.

"Okay, I'll stop. Here's your breakfast, you can eat while I do your hair," Oakley nodded and sat down to eat her eggs and blueberry muffin.

Hailey began the process of taming Oakley's waves and secured Oakley's strawberry blonde hair into a half up ponytail when put a a white satin bow with lomg tails, one of which had her name stitched on it in pink, in it so it faced forward. Jay watched with a smile on his face and snapped a picture as Hailey smiled down at Oakley, who was looking up at her mom with a grin.

"My beautiful girls," he said as he came and sat down to eat.

"Hi daddy," Oakley smiled and went back to eating and Hailey blushed as she sat down.

"Are you excited?" Hailey asked her little girl.

"Uh huh!" Oakley nodded and grabbed her sippy cup of milk and took a drink.

"I'm so glad. And you know one of us will pick you up at the end of the day, right?" Hailey confirmed, getting another nod from the kid.

"Good. You're going to have so much fun," Jay smiled.

"When awe we leavin?" She asked, now done eating.

"Soon, kiddo. Go potty and brush your teeth while mama and I finish," Jay told her and she ran to her bathroom. Jay had already put toothpaste on her toothbrush for her and made her bed.
