(I got a request for Hailey and Jay being married before Hailey joins the unit, and when Voight offers her the job, she accepts but has a complete breakdown when they get home because she's worried everyone will hate her. I love this request and tbh I'd gladly do more oneshots of things that happened in Hailey's early seasons with them already married if y'all want them, I'd love to write it!)

"I need you outside to move the yellow tape back 50 yards, and roll in the crime lab," Jay momentarily froze when he heard that voice; it was his wife, Hailey Upton.

No one in the department, except Platt, Voight, and Hailey's sergeant, knew they were married. Platt had always known, she'd been at their wedding because Hailey was close with the woman. Platt was one of the only people in Hailey's life that had ever truly made her feel safe and was the person who inspired Hailey to become a cop. Voight and Hailey's sergeant only knew because they were each other's next of kin and emergency contact. It had never come up otherwise, this was actually the first time they'd crossed paths out in the field in their six years of marriage. In hindsight, Jay shouldn't have been surprised she'd shown up, he knew she'd been after this crew for three weeks.

He broke out of his thoughts and watched with a slight smirk as she ignored Voight and asked him to vacate her crime scene. To say he was proud was an understatement, seeing his girl in her element and being so assertive was incredible. Jay wondered if Voight had made the connection of who she was when she said her name. If he had, he didn't say anything.

Then, Hailey came up the stairs at 21 and told Voight he had balls trying to steal her case and accidentally spilled Platt's coffee on her. Jay watched her cheeks flush and her eyes get red, he knew she was embarrassed and upset with herself. Despite her calm, tough exterior, only a handful of people knew that Hailey was actually fairly self conscious, insecure, and timid. She knew how to be bold and hold her own, growing up in an abusive home would do that to a person, but her childhood was also why she absolutely hated being looked down on, questioned, yelled at, or judged harshly. It made her nervous and being in completely new environments was something Hailey struggled with, though she never let anyone but Jay, Will, Natalie, or her brothers see that side of her. Trudy had seen it a couple of times as well, so when Hailey had walked into Voight's office, he caught Trudy's eye and she subtly shook her head, showing it was okay.

As Hailey walked out of Voight's office, Jay sighed when he heard her say how she now knew he was a son of a bitch. She was in defense mode, which meant she would get very sassy and firm. But the look in her eyes told him that his wife was very upset, and he wished he could follow her as she hurried down the stairs.

Then, Hailey ended up working the case with Intelligence, and she did absolutely incredible. Jay could tell the others were impressed, and he loved watching his girl in action. Hailey never ceased to amaze him, and Jay could tell she had Voight impressed, which was hard to do.

He left before she did so he could meet the guys at Molly's and talk to Erin after the hard day she'd had. Once he was done with that, he went home with a pizza and waited for his wife to come home.

Hailey drove home filled with anxiety, desperate to get to her husband, her safe person, and cry. She was so happy but so anxious. Hank Voight had offered her a position in Intelligence, which was a dream come true, it was the most elite unit in Chicago. But Hailey couldn't tell what everyone thought of her, and she'd heard them talking about "Burgess" and how much they all loved her and missed her. She didn't want to be a replacement, or be hated because of that. As soon as she got to their townhouse, she ran inside to find Jay.

Jay was slightly startled when Hailey ran into the house and straight to where he was standing on the other side of the kitchen counter, wrapped her arms around his torso, and burst into tears.
