(Hailey gets the flu and is extremely uncomfortable; set season 7)
——
Hailey was exhausted at the end of a Monday in January. She looked over at Vanessa and sighed.
"Can you drive home, please?" She asked.
"Sure, are you okay?" Vanessa asked, concerned.
"I'm fine, I'm just really tired and don't feel like driving," Hailey shrugged as she got in the car.
"Fair. What do you want for dinner?"
"You pick," Hailey yawned.
"Wanna do grilled cheese?" Hailey nodded.
They got home and made dinner, ate, and Hailey went to shower. She was so tired and she had that weird feeling in her chest like she'd been running in the cold. Which she had, earlier that day, but it hadn't gone away.
"I'm going to bed. Night, Ness," Hailey said from the stairs. It was barely 8:15.
"Hailey Anne, you never go to bed this early. Are you okay?" Vanessa rose an eyebrow and walked up to Hailey and felt her forehead.
"Vanessa, stop, I'm just really tired," Hailey laughed.
"Okay, if you say so. Goodnight," Vanessa smiled and went back down to the couch.
Hailey was immediately asleep, and it worried Vanessa. Hailey was a night owl, heck, the blonde sometimes didn't even sleep. This wasn't normal. She checked on her before going to bed, and Hailey was sound asleep.
——
In the morning, Vanessa was in the shower when Hailey's alarm started going off. She could barely hear it over the water, but it wasn't stopping. So, she finished quickly, threw on some clothes, and went into Hailey's room.
Hailey had turned her alarm off and was sound asleep again. Vanessa noted that she sounded congested when she was breathing, and she was snoring a little. Hailey only snored when she was sick or had been crying before bed.
"Hails, wake up for me," Vanessa shook her shoulder and Hailey pushed her away.
"Nope, Hailey Anne, wake up," Vanessa urged the older girl.
"Go away. Let me die in peace," Hailey whined, pulling the covers over her head.
"Hailey, why are you dying?" She asked seriously, pulling the covers away.
"I don't feel good. Please, leave me alone," Hailey pleaded.
"In a minute, girl. What's not feeling good?" Vanessa asked, feeling Hailey's forehead. She was burning up.
"Aches, cough, congested, headache, stomach hurts, dying," Hailey listened, finally opening her glassy eyes.
"You have a fever, Hails. I'm going to tell Voight you're sick, do you want me to stay with you or take you to a doctor?" Vanessa was worried about the blonde.
"I'm fine," Hailey rolled over and shut her eyes. She really didn't feel good, but she didn't want to ask Vanessa to stay with her.
"I know you're not okay, Hailey. Please talk to me," Vanessa rubbed her back.
"Can you please just get a trash can, kleenex, gingerale, and Tylenol?" Hailey asked her.
"I'll be right back," Vanessa left her room to gather everything and took it up to Hailey. "Here you go, Hails. Take your temperature," she put the thermometer in Hailey's mouth and waited for the beep.
"Damn girl, you really went for it. 102.6. Take some medicine," Hailey took it and curled up in the middle of her bed, opening her computer to find something to watch.
