(Hey, y'all! I'm (unfortunately) home from working at camp all summer. I miss it so much and definitely will be doing the whole summer again next year. Classes start on August 29 for me, so until I get into a good rhythm, I'll just be writing here and there. I'm still trying to get out of camp mode and after 11 weeks, it's definitely taking a hot minute to get used to being in the real world again and I've been doing laundry for 5 days😅. So, just bear with me as I get back into writing again. This one is set in season 7, and while I had bronchial spasms for a few years, I don't know all there is to know about asthma. So if I get anything wrong about after care, please don't come at me, google wasn't super helpful lol)

The weather in Chicago had been insane the last few weeks, and it was really getting on a certain blonde detective's nerves. One day it would be snowing. Then it would be in the 50's, windy, and humid. Then it would rain. Then it would snow again. Then get warm before it would stay below 20 degrees for days. And today it had started warm (ish) and humid and the temperature was rapidly dropping as the winds picked up.
Hailey had been coughing for two weeks, mainly at night before bed. Just the night before, she'd coughed so hard she'd thrown up. And all morning, she couldn't shake it.
"Hail, are you sick?" Kim asked after Hailey's latest fit. Hailey shook her head as she drank some water.
"It's the weather, my lungs aren't happy," she frowned as she continued to work.
Jay and Vanessa eyed Hailey when she said that. They knew she had asthma and the last couple weeks had been rough on her lungs. Both of them hoped she'd listen to her body before something bad happened.
A couple hours later, they caught a case and were sent out to interview people and go talk to suspects. Hailey was starting to regret coming, her chest was aching and she couldn't stop coughing.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Jay asked her as he drove.
"I'll be fine, this happens," she shrugged, drinking some more water.
"Tell me if you aren't," she nodded as they pulled up to their suspect's house and got out of the truck.
"CHICAGO PD, open up!" She yelled and they heard a crash.
Looking through a window, they saw the suspect take off running out the back and both quickly jumped from the porch and followed him. It took them ten minutes to catch him, and Hailey couldn't breathe when patrol took the man. It wasn't her normal coughing, either. She was wheezing and it really hurt.
"Hailey, talk to me," Jay noticed her change in demeanor and her increased coughing immediately. Her hands had started shaking as well.
"Fine," she shook her head and started walking towards the truck as she tried to breathe.
Jay followed her and noticed the whistle he heard in her breathing and how shallow it was. "Hailey, stop. Look at me," he turned her towards him and she swayed, suddenly very dizzy.
"Woah, sit down," Jay guided her to the ground as she fought to breathe, now very scared.
"Try and breathe, Hails, I'll be right back," Jay instructed and took off in a sprint towards the truck.
Hailey began to cry and her lips were turning blue. She was scared, and she was alone as she coughed and gagged, spitting up on the concrete. That made it even harder for her to breathe and she was getting lightheaded. "Jay!" She weakly cried out.
Jay suddenly appeared infront of her with her inhaler in his hand. "Easy, Hails. I'm going to give you a puff and I need you to hold your breath," Jay was absolutely terrified that his partner was turning blue as he held the inhaler to her mouth and pressed down.
