(Hailey's still recovering, and they've got a couple of weeks until summer break. I apologize in advance, this isn't my best work but I wanted to get it out so I can do part 4 soon. I fully intended to have this up DAYS ago, but the people I nanny for went out of town and I was on kid duty for 4 days and barely had time to even shower without a child interrupting so...)

It had been ten days since Hailey had shown up at the Halstead's in the middle of the night, bloody and bruised, and finally told them what was going on at home. Her bruises were fading and she could finally cover them enough to go in public, and her ribs had healed enough for her to go to school, so she'd be returning to school the next morning. She and Jay had two and a half weeks left of school before it let out for summer, and they were excited.Hailey was still adjusting to being at the Halstead's and was getting used to not having to be so careful with every move and actually being welcome to things in the house. She still wasn't sleeping through the night and normally ended up in Jay's room or Elizabeth would hear her cries and come lay with her until she calmed down enough to try and sleep again.
Jay's dad still made her a little nervous, but she was slowly starting to warm up to the man and would talk to him without hesitation, though she didn't want to be super close to him just yet. But overall, Hailey was relaxing and wasn't jumping at every sound anymore, just the super loud ones. It was progress.
Hailey was currently sitting at the kitchen table with Jay, doing homework. Her teachers had sent the lessons home with Jay each day, which had taken some finagling to get them to be understanding while not giving away too much.
"Almost done with chemistry?" Jay asked, glancing over at the tired blonde.
"I think so," Hailey shrugged. None of it made sense and she already had plans to go in for tutoring during lunch the next few days for an actual explanation of the materials.
"Can I help?" He offered, knowing Hailey was frustrated that she didn't get it like normal.
"No, it's okay. I'll talk to Mrs. Pearson tomorrow and ask for clarification. Thanks though," Hailey gave him a small smile and put her work in her binder before closing her chemistry book.
"I'm sorry it's not easy, Hails," Jay felt bad that she was stuck in this situation. She didn't deserve it.
"Not your fault," Hailey mumbled and took her things upstairs.
"Has she been like that all day?" Jay asked his mom once Hailey was out of earshot.
"Yes, she has. She's not having an amazing day, Jay. I tried talking to her, but she's been quiet and not super happy. How about you two just watch a movie and I'll order Bartoli's for dinner since she loves it? Hopefully it will calm her down and she hasn't eaten much today," Elizabeth suggested, concerned for the blonde.
"Good idea. Thanks, mom. I'm done with my homework so I'm gonna go check on her," Jay put his things in his backpack and went upstairs and straight to his room. It was where he'd found her when he got home from school, so there was a good chance she'd be curled up in his bed now.
"Hails," he peeked in but didn't see her, so he went to her room and opened the door a little.
She was curled up on the bed, making Jay frown. "Hey, are you hurting?" He asked as he went and sat on the bed.
Hailey shook her head and rolled over to put her head in his lap. She was incredibly anxious and frustrated. All she wanted to do was cry and she wanted her mom to come home and care about her.
"Talk to me, Hails. How can I help?" Jay questioned as he ran a hand through Hailey's hair.
"I don't know, I'm sorry," Hailey spoke quietly, trying not to get upset. She just wasn't very happy and had a lot running through her head.
