(Hailey's allergies are awful, she and Jay are on a stakeout, pre-upstead)
(I know y'all are hoping for some longer, more in depth oneshots. Please give me some time, I have a few weeks off before summer classes start so I'm hoping to get a couple really long ones out before then. My friend's dad died this week and my head just isn't fully in it right now. I'm hurting for and with my friend, and if you feel inclined to do so, please pray for her and her family to have peace and comfort during this time. It's been very hard for them.)

Allergies were something Hailey truly despised. And hers had arrived with a vengeance. Whenever her meds wore off, she felt like crap. Sore throat, cough, sinus headache, watery eyes, the works. It was bad.

On this particular day, she was exhausted and not feeling great. She knew she wasn't actually sick because this happened every year, so she took allergy medicine and cough medicine and went to work, hopeful that they'd get to go home at a reasonable time so she could go to sleep.

Unfortunately, luck was not on her side. At 8:30 PM, Hailey found herself sitting in a van with Jay, feeling terrible and trying not to show it. She didn't want to ruin the stakeout, but she ran out of backup allergy medicine and didn't bring cough medicine with her to work that day.

"Are you feeling okay?" Jay asked as she muffled a cough and wiped her eyes, which were puffy and watery.

"Yeah, I'm fine. It's just allergies. Hopefully this will be over soon," she blew her nose and went back to watching the location.

"Are you sure? No offense, but you look like crap," Hailey rolled her eyes and smacked him.

"I'll be fine, just focus," she grumbled. Jay gave her another look before he went back to focusing. He could tell his partner wasn't feeling great, but he didn't want to piss her off when they were stuck in a van for an indefinite amount of time.

Time passed and Hailey's allergy symptoms continued to get worse, as did her anxiety. She became very worried that she was going to ruin the stake out with her coughing and sneezing, or that she'd mess it up by missing what they were watching for.

After her tenth sneeze in 5 minutes, Jay put a hand on her shoulder. "It's okay if we stop so you can go home. Or we can go get you some medicine."

"No, we have to do this. Then I can go take something and sleep," Hailey insisted before coughing into her elbow. In all honesty, she felt like crap and desperately wanted to go home.

"Hail," he tried to say something else but Hailey froze and pointed out the window of the van. Their suspect was going into the location they were monitoring.

Jay snapped some photos while Hailey logged it and radioed it in. They weren't supposed to do anything yet, so Jay radioed in that they were ending the stake out and the bust would take place the following night now that they confirmed his nightly location.

"Alright, I'm driving back, you close your eyes," Jay said as he got in the driver's seat.

Hailey didn't protest, she simply secured everything and got in the passenger's seat. Jay began driving to the district but stopped at an all night drug store and got some nighttime cough and allergy medicine for Hailey. He could tell his partner was absolutely miserable and wanted to help somehow.

"You didn't have to do that," she said, but grabbed the medication gratefully. "Wait, I can't take these and show up at work tomorrow, or drive home."

"It's almost 2 am, Hail. Just take them and I'll drive you home. Sleep as late as you can and I'll check in with you and come get you in the afternoon if, and only if, you're feeling up to it. Don't worry about it," Jay insisted and Hailey nodded and took the medicines.

She was half asleep when they got to the district, simply going through the motions until she got in Jay's truck. Hailey was asleep, snoring lightly, when Jay pulled up to her apartment. He hated that he had to wake her.

"Hails, wake up," He gently shook her and she coughed but didn't wake up. He sighed.

"Come on, Hailey, wake up. You can go back to sleep soon," he spoke louder and she opened her eyes, her expression showing she was very unhappy with the situation.

"I know, I'm sorry. Let's get you upstairs," he apologized and she nodded and blearily followed him to the elevator.

Hailey leaned against Jay in the elevator and he hugged her. "Just a little longer and you can go to bed," he whispered and she nodded.

"Hate allergies," she mumbled and he laughed a little.

"I know you do."

As soon as they got to her apartment, Jay grabbed her keys and unlocked the door. Hailey went to get some water and a cough drop before she went and hugged Jay.

"You can go, thanks for getting me home," she told him.

"I'm going to wait till I know you're in bed, I don't want you to pass out somewhere," he said and she nodded and went to get changed and crawled into her bed.

She texted Jay that she was in bed and he came in and hugged her again. "Do not call me before 11 am, got it," he said seriously.

Hailey nodded. "Thanks again, you're the best."

"Anytime, Hail. I know you'd do it for me," he said before leaving her apartment and going home.

Hailey slept until about 11:30 AM and woke up feeling less congested and her eyes weren't as irritated as the day before. She was thankful for that, but made sure to take her normal allergy meds to be safe.

Jay came and got her at around 1:00 and she was we okay for the rest of the day and made it through the bust before the headache, sore throat, and itchy eyes returned and she grew annoyed. Chicago really needed to get with it with the weather so her allergies could calm down, but Jay knowing what was happening helped and she restocked her stash in her locker so it wouldn't get as bad again.
