Seconds later, the curtains on the stage are drawn and Grenda announces the show's intermission with her thunderous voice.
"Okay, now's our chance. Dipper, follow me." I flew past a few walls and a few rooms before I finally make it into the dressing room Mabel was in. I look around the room and waited for Dipper to arrive, which he does a few moments later. I pointed at Mabel who was currently drinking water from a water fountain.
"All you have to do now is to get her attention." I went over to her and made my puppet rise slowly beside Mabel and gestured for Dipper to do the same.
"Pst, Mabel!" Dipper whispered to her, causing her to do a spit take after she notices our two floating puppets.
Mabel backed away and stumbled backwards in fear. "Aah! They've both come to life! The puppetbooks didn't warn me about this!"
"Mabel, it's me, Dipper! And the puppet next to me, that's Magnus. You need to help me!"
"Wait, what, Dipper?! Magnus? But both of you are... so much more of a sock than usual!" Mabel commented.
"Mabel, you have to listen. Bill tricked me! He stole my body and now he's after the journal! You have to find the journal before Bill destroys it. It's the only hope to get me back in my body!" Dipper exclaimed.
"Wait, then how about Magnus?" Mabel pointed at me.
"Well, I'm using the Axolotl's Eye to help you guys," I explained to her.
"What? I thought we agreed not to use it," Mabel chided.
"Well, the use of the necklace is now necessary. But that's not important! You've got to get to the journal before Bill does!"
"But my cue's coming up any minute!" Mabel said in protest.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. 'Gabe.'
Gabe peeked into the room. "Hey, Mabel, do you have a moment?"
"GABE!" Mabel yelled in surprise and began laughing nervously. She then grabs our floating puppets and hides us behind her back hastily.
"Ow! Mabel!" Dipper protests behind her quietly.
"She doesn't know the strength of her grip," I whispered to Dipper and winced in pain.
Gabe proceeded to praise Mabel and asked her out, "Mabel, it's clear to me now that you really love puppets. I mean, you went whole hog. And if you stick the ending, well, maybe later you could join me for a biscotti?"
"You drive a biscotti?" Mabel asked in wonderment before the light in the room flickers fleetingly.
"I'll be waiting," Gabe told Mabel before he left the room.
"Did you hear that? He loves it! This play has to be flawless. Can't we wait until after the show?" Mabel asked Dipper nicely.
"Mabel! You want me to be a sock puppet forever?!" Dipper asked Mabel angrily and flailed his puppet's arms wildly.
Mabel laughed at this, and so did I, as I couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous Dipper was looking right now.
He glares at me, causing me to stop laughing and I maintained my straight face again, looking off to the side innocently.
"I'm sorry, it- it looks funny when you're mad," Mabel said through chuckles.
Dipper grunted, causing Mabel to chuckle transiently. She manages to recollect herself after a while.
"Okay, okay, okay, just take over for me till I get back with the book. Little puppet face!" Mabel grinned at Dipper and handed Dipper her puppet.
"I'll follow you, Mabel. We've got no more time to lose or waste," I told her and after she nods her head, she sprints to the ladder, with my puppet floating beside her.
