Time Skip

We hide behind some trees, our eyes fixating on Stan, who was giving a tour to a group of tourists at the Shack.

"Alright. The coast is clear," Dipper whispered.

"Now's our chance!" Mabel took off her laser tag vest and made a run for the nearby window of the Shack, the two of us also imitating her actions.

Mabel swiftly opens the window, all of us jumping through it and making it into the gift shop.

"Hah! Bingo," Dipper picks up a screwdriver from the stray toolbox that stood beside us. "Alright, let's see..." Dipper stuck his tongue out in concentration and began operating on the broken time machine.

"Yup, just tie that screw in and we should be good to go," I commented while I observed what he was doing.

"Yes, I know, Magnus. Just give me a second and there, this thing should be working," Dipper said proudly.

"Well done, now let's get out of here."

Mabel rushed back to us in a hurry and jerked our head in Soos' direction. "Guys, guys look!"

"No. Way." Dipper gasped once his eyes locked onto the young child.

"Not going to lie, Soos actually does look a little adorable here," I admit, grinning at the little, chubby kid.

"I know right!" Mabel cooed.

We overhear Soos and Abuelita's conversation, Mabel finally catching on to what was happening. "Big day? This could be the birthday where that personal biz went down. We could finally find out why Soos hates his birthday."

"Alright. But let's be quick or wait a minute," Dipper's eye lights up in realisation. "We could just find out from someone here," Dipper looks at me.

I shook my head firmly. "No, Dipper, I'm not telling you why. Come on, let's find out why he hates his birthday so much. It won't take long."

"Fine," Dipper said reluctantly, letting Mabel lead the way.

She eventually leads us to a tall olive-green bush which we hide behind, all of us peeking out of it to look at what was happening at the party.

His family(well except his father of course) had gathered there, each of them wishing Soos a happy birthday, exchanging some pleasantries with each other and making some small talk. Some other youthful and sprightly young kids were running around and chasing each other, all of them looking like they were having a whale of a time. Soos' Abuelita then brought him a racecar cake and presented it to him proudly.

"Man, I don't know why Soos hate his birthdays, this looks great," Dipper remarked.

"Ah, but you haven't noticed something important," I pointed at the seat at the head of the table. Moments later, a random kid occupies the aforementioned seat. Shortly afterwards, Soos asks him to move seats politely, which he does, not before enquiring about the seat in question.

"Uh, who's it for?"

"Oh, heh. It's for my dad actually. I haven't seen him in like... eight years. But he's coming today!" Soos exclaimed jovially.

"Oh, heh. It's for my dad actually. I haven't seen him in like... eight years. But he's coming today!" As if on cue, the doorbell to the Shack chimes. Soos immediately snaps to attention, running to the door of the Shack to welcome who he thought would be behind the door, his father.

Us triplets also run off to the window close to the door, peeking at Soos through the window and awaiting his next course of action.

"Alright, Soos. Today's the big day. Be cool. Be. Cool," Soos calms himself sufficiently before opening the door, revealing a postman who hands Soos a postcard from his father. He looks at it carefully and reads the message written on it, his smile slowly withering away and transmogrifying into a frown.
