I felt myself flushing. "I guess I'll have to answer you as honestly as possible, the thing is, I-I" I couldn't speak, my mouth almost acting as if it were incapable of moving and were disregarding my orders.

"Yes?" Casey asked me and raised her eyebrow. 'I don't have much time left in this universe so I might as well confess now.'

I drew out a shaky breath. "I l-like you, I guess." I avoided her gaze, expecting her to run away from me.

Instead, she hugged me, catching me completely off guard.

Casey looked at me with a wide smile and blushed, "I figured that you did after seeing how you were so protective over me and all. I have to admit, I kinda like you too, even though we haven't spent that much time together. The way you looked out for me and how intelligent you were, those traits just instantly stuck out to me."

I returned the hug, "Well, I could say the same for you. The calming effect you had on me was like no other. Your presence just always reassured me and the first time I laid on my eyes on you, I kinda loved the way you look." I blushed intensely, my face now I'm pretty sure was as red as a tomato. "Does that sound weird?" I asked her quickly.

"Maybe a little bit," Casey conceded.

"But I'm flattered honestly," she added quickly.

"I don't know if I should be asking you this, given your age but do you want to be in a rel-"

Casey interrupted me mid-sentence. "Yes, I would love to."

I stared at her in disbelief. "Wow, am I hearing that correctly?"

Casey rolled her eyes at me, "Yes, of course you are, you dork. Do you want me to scream that?"

I shook my head furiously. "No, don't do that!"

"Just kidding, I wouldn't dare. Geez, you are so gullible."

I held her hand as she began to retrace our step from the stream back to Greasy's Diner. "Yeah I may be gullible, but I'm not as reckless as you are."

"Hey! Do you want me to bring you out of here, or should I just leave you here?" Casey asked and seemed to ponder on this question of hers.

"Wait, wait. I take what I said back, just continue with what you were doing," I said to her hurriedly.

Casey laughed and eventually, we were back at Greasy's Diner.

"Do you need a ride home?" I asked her and walked up to the golf cart I had driven to the diner in.

"You know what? I might as well sleepover at your place tonight if you wouldn't mind?"

"Wait, have you asked your parents for permission?" I asked her suspiciously.

"No, but I'm usually alone most of the time. My parents are usually out working. You already know my dad, well Stan told you about him the other day, he's usually out of town, working in that hospital in that nearby town.

"And your mother?" I asked.

For some reason, I managed to glimpse a twinge of melancholy in her eyes for a split second before she switched back to her cheery demeanour. "She's accompanying dad at the hospital, she works as a nurse there." 'That's weird, why was she sad for a split second?'

"Well if that's the case, I guess I don't really see why not, since there's no one watching you at home. I'm sure Stan will be more than happy to accommodate you."

"Nice! Shall we get in?"

"Ladies first," I pretended to bow.

"What a gentleman," Casey said sarcastically and entered the golf cart. I sat in the driving seat seconds later and glared at her for what she said earlier.
