We arrive at Grenda's house as expected. Soos pulls up at her house and both Mabel and I alight from the car, ringing the doorbell to her house.
The door to her house swings open almost instantly, Grenda with Candy coming to meet us. "Oh hi, Mabel, Magnus! You're just in time for our 1 o'clock boy talk."
"Yes, let's pretend I'm not here," I mumble, standing off to the side to give the girls some space to talk.
The girls don't hear what I say and proceed with their normal, by normal I mean scripted conversation. "If you think that's good...Boom! Me, Magnus and Dipper's 13th birthday jam!"
"Aw, man. Your birthday's on the last day of summer? I'm not gonna be here," Grenda answered sadly.
"What?" Mabel asked in shock and confusion.
"Marius is flying me out to Austria to hang out in his castle or whatever that week," Grenda informed, clenching and shaking her fist in annoyance. "He's so clingy!"
"You're gonna be out of town for my birthday? But at least you can come, right, Candy?" Mabel looked at Candy hopefully.
"Sorry, Mabel. My parents send me to music camp this time of year. There is no escape from music camp."
Tears began to prick the corner of Mabel's eyes. "So neither of you are gonna be at my birthday party? And you won't be able to wish me goodbye at the end of the summer?"
"I'm sorry, Mabel," Candy said sympathetically and hugged her.
"Summer happened so fast," Grenda added and joined in the hug before going off to speak to Marius on the phone. "Ugh, Marius! Now's not the time!"
"I think I need to radio for emotional back-up," Mabel broke away from Candy's hug and whipped her walkie-talkie out, walking away from Grenda's house as she did.
I run up to Mabel, taking the party fliers that she held in her hands and pulling her into an embrace. "I know this is hard for you, and trust me, I was once in your shoes, I also had to go through what you did. I was scared of growing up, just like you, it was hard for me to adapt to high school at first but you will learn how to adapt and overcome your fears of growing up eventually. Plus, you don't have to do it alone, you still have Dipper. Dipper's not as good of a brother as me admittedly, I was just joking by the way and don't tell him I told you this. Anyway, the point is, he'll help you and there are so many other people who care about you and are willing to help you. You're not alone in this, not many people can say that, you know."
"Yeah, I guess," Mabel nodded absent-mindedly and pulled herself out from my hug, trodding back to Soos' truck dolefully. 'She didn't listen to me, did she?' I sigh, shaking my head and following her back to the truck.

Soos drops us off at the Shack, bidding us goodbye before he sped off, going to do whatever he usually does in his free time. I take Mabel's hand, guiding her up the stairs slowly to our bedroom without exchanging a single word with her. We both knew that it was better to let silence reign supreme than to try to make things seem better than it actually was when in reality, they weren't.
I let Mabel open the door to our bedroom slowly, taking her time to go to her bed to retrieve her scrapbooks. I sit on the floor, patting on the spot beside me, asking her silently to sit next to me.
She sighs sadly but ultimately sits beside me, lying on the floor while opening her scrapbook, flipping through its pages one by one, staring at the photos she had taken this summer, the memories we shared all stored in one single book.
