I climb up the ladder to my bunk bed after an action-packed day. I was just about to browse through YouTube, seeing if any videos caught my eye. I suddenly sense movement on my bed, prompting me to look up from my phone and see the twins in front of me with their legs crisscrossed, staring at me expectantly.
"Uhh, what are you guys doing?" I question, weirded out by their abrupt appearance.
"Magnus don't you remember, you were supposed to tell us about what happened?"
"Wait, you told Mabel too. Wait, of course, you did. I suppose she does have the right to know what happened," I admit.
The twins nodded, signalling for me to go on with my explanation.
"Well, after Dipper finished taking photos of us. I noticed something peculiar in the corner of my eye, unusually large ripples in the normally unruffled waters beneath us so I knew something humungous was beneath us and I also knew only monsters could be of this size. So I thought to myself, what if I could draw the monster closer to the ship with fish bait? Would that work? After doing the necessary calculations, I determined that I would be able to make the monster jump up in the air at the correct time, giving Dipper just enough time to take a picture of the monster. And after all that was done, I would throw the fish bait as far away from the boat as possible with the scant amount of time I had. It just so happened the monster that jumped up was the Gobblewonker. I was just guessing that the monster was the Gobblewonker when I told you I found the Gobblewonker. Satisfied with the explanation?"
"Yeah, I guess," Dipper nods slowly, assimilating the information from the elucidation I gave. "By the way, what would have happened if you did not release your hand at the correct time?"
"Well, I would most certainly not be here. I would either be in a hospital as I would be bereft of an arm or if worse comes to worst, I would be dead by now," I answer calmly, my features assumably showing that I was undaunted by such a prospect.
"You risked your life for us, just for one photo?" Mabel asked, her eyes beginning to water.
"Well, looking at how much Dipper wanted the photo, I would say going through all that was worth it in the end, all's well that ends well right?"
"No, it isn't! You could have died!" Dipper yelled, tears beginning to prick the corner of his eyes.
"Yeah, don't ever do that again! We don't know what we would do without you!" Mabel shrieked.
I sigh sadly, knowing that this must be a dream or an illusion of some sort, knowing full well that they weren't my real triplets.
All of a sudden, Mabel and Dipper hug me tightly, catching me completely off guard.
"Promise me you'll never do that again!" Dipper levels his stern gaze to mine, demanding an immediate answer that was in the affirmative from me silently.
"I promise, I wouldn't know what I would do without you two as well."
"Good," Mabel nods contentedly, wiping away the tears that had welled up in her eyes earlier, as does our brother. We then decide to break the hug, staring at each other silently, three of us remaining like this for a while.
I end silence's dominance over us, putting it back in its place. "Well, you guys should be going to bed. It is getting pretty late now."
"You're right, good night Magnus!" Mabel shouts.
"Good night Magnus!"
"Good night, you two."
The twins descend the ladder and made their way to their respective beds.
"Mabel, mind getting the lights?" Dipper questions.
"No problem bro-bro!" Mabel said as she broke the lightbulb with her grappling hook (again).
I smile and take off my glasses, falling asleep almost instantly, remaining in a tenebrous void until a dream or rather, a vision took over.
I was on the roof of the Mystery Shack, watching Dipper as he fought off wax Sherlock Holmes.
"Be careful!" I yelled out to him. Wax Sherlock chases Dipper down and tries to hit him with his sword but ultimately fails as Dipper jumps back. Or rather, that's what I thought.
"You really think you can outwit me, boy? I'm Sherlock bleeding Holmes! Have you seen my magnifying glass?! It's enormous!"
I stand there, spectating the fight and not intervening because I knew that Dipper defeated Wax Sherlock Holmes in the show and he probably would inevitably do so here too.
I watched as Dipper scurried away and hid behind the chimney. Wax Sherlock Holmes somehow manages to appear behind Dipper in a trice, kicking him down.
"Any last words? Well, I presume, you don't!" he exclaims, stabbing Dipper in the heart with his sword.
"No!" I shrieked as I woke up, drenched in sweat and breathing heavily.
I checked the time on my phone, the screen reading 3.10 am.
I look over my bed just to make sure the twins were asleep. I could roughly make out Mabel in her bed, her gentle snores floating through the air, indicating that she was still sleeping soundly. 'Wow, she sleeps like a log'
I could not tell if Dipper was asleep or not so I presumed he was.
I thought about the dream I had earlier. 'Was it true? Was this fate? Is it meant to happen?'
Dipper's POV:
I heard a shriek from above my bed and some heavy breathing coming from the bed above me.
I slowly climb up the ladder to Magnus's bed, finding him in a state of rumination.
His eyes widened when he saw me climbing onto his bed.
"Mind telling me why you were screaming in the middle of the night," I whispered, raising my eyebrows.
"I-I would rather not talk about it," Magnus whispered, his face fraught with anxiety.
"You can tell me anything that's on your mind. I'm here for you," I reassure gently, looking at Magnus worriedly.
"Well, if you must know, I had a nightmare," Magnus whispers.
"Oh, I used to have nightmares all the time. You don't have to worry about them. They aren't real. You love science, you should know this."
"I know but when my nightmares involve family members, I just, get kind of frightened, you know?"
"Come here." I beckon Magnus towards me and when he comes over to me, I wrap my arms around him in an embrace.
"Don't worry, I'm here. I won't let anything happen to my family," I told him reassuringly, trying to dispel his fears.
Magnus seemed to have calmed down immensely from earlier, even managing to flash a small smile at me. "Thanks, Dipper and I promise, I also won't let anything happen to you or Mabel."
"No problem, just remember, you can always find me or Mabel if anything is on your mind. Go back to sleep now."
"Well, you should too."
"Yeah, I'm going back now," I rolled my eyes and chuckling quietly, I went back to my bed, descending into a state of repose once my head hit my pillow.
Unbeknownst to us, Mabel was listening in to our conversation.
Quote Of The Episode: "Here goes. My ex-wife still misses me...but her aim is gettin' better! Her aim is gettin' better! Y'see, it's-it's funny because marriage is terrible."-Stanley Pines
Stan is a gift that unfailingly delivers, he's a gold mine when it comes to quotes. What a quote that is, I still remember this quote to this day, it still lives in my head rent-free.
Author's Note: Wow that took a long time to write. I tried to come up with some plot twists to spice up the story. Let me know your thoughts and opinions about this chapter in the comments section.
