That Sudden Spark Part1

Jennivine dreaded having to observe the only occupied table in the entire restaurant, since there was nothing else for her to do. She had already folded the napkins, organized used tables and polished the silverware.
The thought of her boss's fiancée made her cheeks heat up, and her fingers clenched around the pen in her hand. She shouldn't have been thinking about Rosalie's beautiful smile, or the soothingness of her laugh. It tampered the joy in her heart that Rosalie had recently gotten engaged. She'd never thought happy news would ever be bad news for her.
She, then, thought about the redhead who regularly visited the restaurant, as of recent.
Is it because of me?
Blair enthused wealth and privilege, and was also elegantly beautiful, but Jennivine hadn't developed feelings for Blair, over the past few months, like she was developing, within a few weeks, with Rosalie.
"Hun, are you thinking about a threesome with that couple?"
Jennivine flinched as she heard her co-worker's voice. Her body tensed because of where her thoughts had been, and a loud sigh escaped her lips.
"I was just lost in thought."
"Sure thing, Hun. You were completely lost ogling those strangers."
The blonde sighed and focused her eyes on the woman beside her. With a recently groomed bob-cut and cutely trimmed eyebrow, the middle-aged woman knew how to radiate her facial features, with just enough contour, to make her nose look smaller in the lighting, and her eyes pop with moderate eye-liner.
"I'm in no mood right now, okay?"
"Sorry, Hun, just a little workplace humor. What's got your panties in a twist today?"
Henrietta patted the surface of her neatly combed hair with the palm of her hand and leaned against the reservation desk.
"Nothing. Nothing at all. Just a bad day and a bad time to be bothered."
"Okay. Okay. I got the hint. I'll go chat with Pedro in the kitchen. Beckon for me if customers start piling up."
With an eye roll and a grimace, the blonde looked down at the notepad in front of her.
Just Breathe. Don't Frown. Twelve more minutes and, then, you can head to the nearby coffee shop and aimlessly stare through the glass wall. Oh wait, I can do that now, at work.
Looking out of the window, she noticed Blair standing outside staring at the building. Furrowing her brows, she studied Blair from afar. Blair was, indeed, beautiful. But there was just something about Rosalie that seemed to intrigue her, not that she wanted to admit it.
Blair found herself back at the restaurant that she'd rushed out of a few weeks ago. Standing in front of the building, and looking over the restaurant's name, Lee's Fine and Dine, seemingly, Rosalie's fiancée was the owner, given the name. And her thoughts could not help but to drift back to Rosalie.
Rosalie swept her off of her feet by a mere glance, and when the beauty spoke, her voice sensualized divineness and allure. Oh, what she would've done to have those plump lips pressed against hers-to run the tips of her fingers down the slope of the woman's back, and caress the firmness of her round cheeks. But the temptress was engaged, and that made Blair's heart sink.
She entered the restaurant with one swift stride, not bothering to acknowledge anyone's presence or inhale the scent of fine cooking coming from inside of the kitchen. There was no reason to. At that moment, she'd only appreciate those brown eyes looking into hers.
"Haven't seen you in a few weeks. Are you thinking about a late lunch?"
And there was the blonde. Those blue eyes alleviated the tension that rose within Blair, and with a deep inhale, she gave the waitress a charming smile.
"I'd rather take you out instead, but I'll settle on eating by myself."
Yes, exactly what Blair needed-mindless flirting. Jennivine pressed her lips together in contemplation. Those light, brown eyes triggered something within her-something different and intangible to her developing feelings for Rosalie. Maybe, if she pushed to remove those dark brown eyes from her thoughts, she'd be able to move on without any hurt. She'd settle for light, brown eyes instead.
"Actually, I'm getting off of work in ten minutes, if you're still up for it, of course."
"Oh." Those light, brown eyes flickered. "Well, you can join me if you'd like, or would you like to head elsewhere?"
Blair was surprised-she was not expecting the blonde to finally agree to her continuous flirting, but was pleased. She did need someone to take her mind off of a specific belle-they both did.
"There's this cafe down the block. Would you like something to drink while you wait?"
"Yeah, a Margarita. Half salt, half sugar on the rim."
Their eyes met, and it was not the feeling that they expected. Both hoped that they'd feel something slightly in resemblance to what they felt for Rosalie. But, maybe, Rosalie was a bottle of water in the desert. One taste, and they'd want more. And sadly, she was probably irreplaceable.
Within fifteen minutes, they'd made it to the cafe and snagged a seat. It wasn't busy for a Saturday afternoon, and that made Blair feel even more relaxed. She couldn't tell if the blonde seated in front of her was extremely alluring or if she was just that horny. She listened as Jennivine spoke about her job at the restaurant, and the tasks that she carried out, but yet there was an excruciating urge to touch her.
Jennivine's eyes moved frantically in the thin air in front of her and over Blair's face, but never stayed put for more than ten seconds.
The temptation to run her fingers through blonde hair was unwavering. Tightening her knees together, Blair gave the woman a wide smile and her full attention.
"Oh and the boss's girlfriend, well fiancée, they got engaged a few weeks ago. She's been around a lot... like a lot. Either in the kitchen, or at the bar, but mostly in this room at the back of the restaurant. No one is allowed in there. I'm not sure what's in there, it's always locked... She's a beautiful mystery." Interesting.
"I see. So you think that she's beautiful?"
Jennivine swallowed with widened eyes. Her mind grasped for words to rephrase what she'd said, but nothing came out coherent. She settled on leaving it as it is. Anyone would notice that Rosalie was beautiful. So, the fear that was tumbling inside of her chest was unnecessary.
"Well, uh, yea. She is. I don't think anyone wouldn't notice."
"She's okay, not my type though." Why am I lying?
Jennivine knew that was a lie. From the moment that she'd noticed Blair's eyes fixated on Rosalie, she knew that Blair felt somewhere close to how she felt-infatuated.
"And what is your type?"
The blonde pressed her lips together and leaned backward in her chair. She'd enjoy making Blair spill what she actually thought.
"Let me see... Blonde. Blue eyes. Beautiful smile. Do you know anyone to fit my type?"
Jennivine shook her head with a smile on her face. She expected a different answer, but appreciated the charm.
"There's the president, if you travel that route."
Blair quirked a brow. She thought Jennivine would take her remark as a chance to flirt back. Seemingly, the blonde was playing hard to get.
"I'm strictly into girls."
"Oh, I see. Then no, I don't know anyone of that sort for you."
The redhead was never one to play games-she'd always head straight to the point, as subtle as she could, without scaring anyone off.
"Really now? I do think I've encountered such a person recently. She's funny, smart and extremely sexy."
Blair sank her teeth into her bottom lip and enjoyed the blush that crept onto the blonde's cheeks. And there it is-the reaction.
"Oh, uh..."
They both felt a sudden spark. Where did it come from? It didn't matter. What mattered was that they were growing a liking to each other, and that was a good sign.
"Actually, she is sitting right in front of me."
Jennivine felt a strange feeling rushing through her veins. She was starting to like Blair.
"You're something else..."
Blair stretched her hand across the table and placed it on Jennivine's arm. Jennivine felt a tingling sensation bugging the spot where Blair's hand laid. A smile couldn't stop from forming on her lips.
"Good or bad?"
Their eyes held steady for a few seconds. They had sensations running through them that weren't expected. But it was good-it was what they needed.
"It's good, but there's something that you should know..."
Blair removed her hand and placed it onto the table in front of her. She sensed Jennivine's hesitance, and the possibility that it was all knew to her.
"I'm all ears, Jenny."
Blair smiled and traced the tip of her index finger around the rim of her coffee cup.
"My wife died over a year ago."
The redhead raised her cup to her lips and took a sip of her coffee. She didn't expect that. She thought that Jenny was figuring out her sexuality, not that she had a dead wife.
"I'm so sorry."
Blair rested her cup down and moved her hand across the table again. Jennivine welcomed Blair's hand with her own and they both smiled.
"Thank you."
Jennivine sucked in a breath and closed her eyes. She tightened her fingers around Blair's hand, and received a comforting hold. It was soothing.
"I haven't been with anyone since her, so it's a process. I just wanted you to know so that you can decide if..."
Jennivine opened her eyes and pressed her lips together. With an arch to her brow, her mind wondered about the response that she would receive.
"If I want a second date with you?" Jennivine nodded. Her heart clenched inside of her chest awaiting Blair's answer. "Yes, I do."
Jennivine let out the breath that she didn't know she was holding. It felt like the first victory that she'd gotten in a long time.
"I'd like that too."
Warmth began to spread through their bodies, and it wasn't because of the heating in the room.
"But I do have a question for you." The blonde took a deep inhale and gave Blair a nod. "Are you ready to move on?"
Jennivine contemplated the question for a bit. She bit down on the inside of her right cheek, and thought about her decision to finally have coffee with the intriguing customer. It was definitely a date. And she was definitely enjoying it.
"Yeah. I do."
There was no hesitation whatsoever. And that made Blair smile. Then, as if it was planned, a sudden thought interrupted their moment-Rosalie. Blair swallowed and tried to focus her thoughts on Jennivine.
"Jenny..."
"It's short for Jennivine, but you can call me whatever you like."
"I like Jenny, if that's okay with you."
"Of course."
Jennivine smiled brightly at Blair, probably to cover up that she was thinking about Rosalie-but they both were.
