ROSALIE RAPPED ON Henry's door. He didn't answer, so she leaned her forehead against the wall and inhaled a deep breath. What was she supposed to say? What could she say? She'd gotten a bit rusty on how to deal with a teenage boy, and to think of it, she never had to deal with a seventeen year old.
Romario had died just before their seventeenth birthday. And although he'd been a handful while growing up, they understood each other pretty well. So, Rosalie never actually dealt with a rebellious teen before, other than her friends from high school. But Henry was different. Henry wasn't a stuck up teenage girl who complained about everything in his life. He was Elizabeth's son-a good kid.
Rosalie wasn't sure if he'd hate her, or despise her, since he knew that she was sleeping with his mother. Did he have a problem with that specifically, or was his problem that Rosalie was engaged to his other mother? It must have been complicated for him to process everything. She wasn't sure how she'd react if her mother hooked up with one of her father's mistress's. And which one would her mother choose? Allen Decker had many affairs over the years, and he wasn't subtle about them either. Rosalie couldn't even tolerate being in a room with her father, so she probably would have been pleased if her mother banged one of his mistress's. It probably would have been one of the funniest things to happen in her life.
"Ever heard of something called personal space?"
Rosalie's head snapped up, and her eyes looked over the brunette boy in front of her. Henry looked nothing like Romario. Romario was quite a looker, and Henry was too, but in different ways.
"I just want to talk, kid."
Henry crossed his arms over his chest and furrowed his brows. He was curious to know what Rosalie had to say. What could she say?
"Go ahead then. Maybe, you can start with why you were naked with my mother on her bed? Or maybe, why you're still here?"
Rosalie didn't expect so much hostility from Henry. She gulped and rubbed the back of her neck with the palm of her hand.
"Henry, I care about your mother."
Henry scoffed. That was such a typical thing to say. He expected better from Rosalie. Actually, he didn't know what to expect anymore. Because he clearly didn't expect to find her in his mother's bed.
"Is that all you have to say?"
Rosalie shook her head. She couldn't formulate the right words to explain the situation to him. What was the situation? Rosalie had feelings for her ex-fiancée's ex-wife. It still sounded as complicated as it was. She'd found herself in a pickle, as they say.
"No, of course not. Henry, I'm not sure what you want to hear, or sure what to say. But I developed feelings for your mum, and we're just exploring those feelings."
"From how you're saying it, it sounds like you're talking about mama (Lee). So, honestly, I'm not sure at this point which mother you're talking about."
That's the burn that Rosalie dreaded. He brought up the big elephant in the room-Rosalie banged both of his mothers.
"Henry, your mum... I mean Lee, and I broke up. I'm exploring a relationship with Beth. I know that I might be sounding a bit slutty, but things worked out like that. I can't help if Beth's your mum. And I know that I shouldn't cross that line, but I really like your mum. I really, really like her."
Henry studied the woman in front of him. Was she being sincere? Were her intentions pure? He couldn't help but wonder if the only reason Rosalie hung out with him was because she wanted to get into his mother's pants. And why did Rosalie have to go for both of his moms? It wasn't necessarily a bad thing that she'd done. But it would definitely complicate things with his parents even more.
Elizabeth listened to their conversation from the bottom of the staircase. She felt her heart's pace increasing and her palms sweating. Rosalie really did like her? It made her insides tingle. She couldn't help but smile.
"So you left mama for mom?"
Rosalie immediately shook her head. Did she? No, of course not. She'd decided to end things with Lee for multiple reasons that didn't include her feelings for Elizabeth. But was she so sure? No, she wasn't.
"No. Lee and I had issues of our own. We decided to end things. And then, I realized that I was developing feelings for Beth, and she felt the same way."
"So, how did you two realize that?"
Rosalie gulped. Did she really have to answer that question?
"I might have kissed her."
Elizabeth shyly grinned as she walked toward her son. She'd instigated it, so she should be the one to answer the uncomfortable questions. Henry was her son, after all.
"Nice score!"
Henry gave his mother a high five and grinned. He was still a bit shaken. But he couldn't pass up the moment to salute his mom on scoring a belle like Rosalie.
"I'm not sure if I should be offended or not."
Rosalie looked at the two with narrowed eyes. She wasn't offended, but wasn't flattered either.
"You're hot. I always wondered what you saw in... uh, you know what, I'll shut my mouth now."
"She's pretty attractive."
Both Elizabeth and Rosalie said in unison. They'd been with her, so they had to defend her, of course. Lee was attractive, but she wasn't as feminine as them.
"Geez. Okay. You guys would know. You've both been with her."
"Thanks for rubbing it in, kid."
Rosalie mumbled. Henry quirked his brow as he looked at his mother and Rosalie standing side by side. They were a cute couple, if not anything else.
"So what then? Are you two dating?" Elizabeth nodded immediately. She didn't know how to tell her son that they hadn't gotten there yet. What would he think? He knew that they were sleeping together. She didn't want him to think that she was having sex with someone that she wasn't even in a relationship with. Rosalie smiled widely. Were they really in a relationship? It excited her. Henry tilted his head to the side and gave Rosalie a serious look over. "If you hurt her, I'll kick your ass."
He warned, causing Rosalie to place the palm of her hand over her mouth, in an attempt, to cover up a laugh.
"Henry, don't be weird."
Elizabeth gritted her teeth and looked at her son. The look on his face was priceless.
"I'm serious."
"Yes, and are you going to tell your mum about the trip or should I?"
Rosalie changed the topic, since she'd probably piss herself from the hilariousness of Henry's protective demeanor.
"Oh, right." Henry looked at his mother with a wide smile. "Michelle's coming with us."
Elizabeth thought that she'd get to spend some alone time with Henry before he went off to college. But seemingly, Michelle wouldn't allow that.
"Oh, that's great."
"You haven't heard the best part."
Rosalie placed her hand in Elizabeth's and grinned. Although she hadn't planned to bombard Elizabeth's trip, she was thrilled about it.
"My mum's come up with this crazy idea..."
"All of us are going. Michelle and her family. You and Me. Rosalie and her mother... that's it, right?"
Rosalie nodded. Hopefully, Kaitlyn wouldn't invite anyone else.
"Wait, what?"
"My mum's got a private plane. So, we can all go, if that's what you want, of course. It wasn't my idea."
"Henry, get ready for school."
Elizabeth pulled Rosalie into her room, and closed the door, making sure to twitch the lock.
"Beth, I'm sorry. I told my mum that it's a bad idea."
Elizabeth wrapped her arms around Rosalie's neck and placed a kiss on her lips.
"It is a bit weird, to be honest."
Rosalie frowned and placed her hands on Elizabeth's waist. She would hold Elizabeth all day, if she could.
"So I'm guessing that's a no."
Elizabeth cupped Rosalie's face with the palms of her hands.
"Never said I didn't like the idea. Your mom and I will probably get along pretty well."
"You just want to meet her."
Elizabeth grinned.
"Maybe. I need to scope out my potential girlfriend's mother."
Rosalie pouted. She thought that they were already dating, but Elizabeth probably only told Henry that to keep up appearances.
"You'll stay with us at our lake house, unless you want to book a hotel room."
"Lake House triumphs hotel any day."
Elizabeth noticed the change in Rosalie's tone. Why did Rosalie sound so bummed?
"It's settled then. When were you planning on leaving?"
"July 1st."
Rosalie nodded. She'd have to give her mother the details to make the necessary arrangements.
"You sure you don't mind spending a few weeks with so many people? I've never been one to enjoy a crowd."
"Then we'll sneak off and create an introvert group just for us. You, me, Henry, a bottle of wine, and maybe a skinny dip."
"With Henry? I'd wait till we're alone."
"Not necessarily at the same time, dear."
Rosalie smiled at her new found name for affection. She'd always loved pet names.
"There's a jacuzzi in my room there. We can enjoy it while everyone else is asleep, and maybe, I'll even let you fondle me for a bit."
Elizabeth sank her teeth into her bottom lip.
"Maybe? I think you mean definitely."
Rosalie pulled on the sash of Elizabeth's robe and placed a kiss on her jawline.
"I have to get ready for work..."
Elizabeth's eyes rolled back as Rosalie's hand slipped beneath her robe and cupped her breast. Rosalie pinched Elizabeth's nipple in between her thumb and index fingers.
"I'll help you. Maybe, I'll even clean you myself. I don't mind licking every inch of you..."
"You're so tempting, but now that Henry knows that you're here, you should probably go."
Rosalie wasn't pleased. She wanted to enjoy Elizabeth's presence for a little while longer.
"When can I see you again?"
Elizabeth sighed as Rosalie removed her hand and stepped backward. She'd love to spend the entire day with Rosalie, but couldn't. Her company was expanding, and she was deciding if to set up the permanent, main office in New York, or Milan. But since most of their clients were in Milan, it was the best option. She'd think that it would complicate her growing relationship with Rosalie. Elizabeth knew that Rosalie was from Milan, but would she move back there? Plus, she'd have to travel constantly. There were potential clients all over the world, and she couldn't pass up the opportunity to construct and renovate some of the best houses of her career. Rosalie was important to her, but her career was important too. Henry was heading off to college, so she didn't have to worry about him.
"You'll probably need a full-time job to not miss me too much. I'm a pretty busy woman."
Rosalie remembered the conversation that she and Elizabeth had. It made her want to laugh, but instead, she decided to tell Elizabeth the truth.
"I do have a full-time job."
Elizabeth quirked her brow. If she remembered correctly, Rosalie said that she was in between jobs.
"Dear, you don't have to feel ashamed. I really think that you'll become a great artist. I'd love to see one of your pieces." But, I already am.
Rosalie pulled Elizabeth into her and pressed their foreheads together.
"Can you keep a secret?" Elizabeth nodded. "I'm already a great artist."
"You're quite cocky, huh?"
Rosalie placed the tip of her index finger over Elizabeth's lips and shook her head.
"Last month, I sold one of my paintings for half a million dollars."
Elizabeth's eyes widened. That was more than she'd make in a year.
"I mean, your mom is Kaitlyn Watson."
Rosalie frowned and released Elizabeth. She was offended that Elizabeth thought that the only reason she'd sell a painting for such a high amount was because of her mother's fame. The painting was worth its price. It was a piece that she'd worked on for weeks.
"It has nothing to do with her."
Elizabeth wasn't sure what to say. She knew that Rosalie's mother was famous. That's all she really knew.
"I didn't mean..."
"I got what you meant."
Rosalie fixed her hair in the mirror and smoothened her blouse. Making sure that she looked presentable enough to walk out the door, she gave Elizabeth a tight smile and a kiss on the back of her palm.
"Rosalie... I..."
"I'll text you."
Elizabeth stopped Rosalie from exiting the room by standing in front of the door. She wasn't sure what the problem was, but she wouldn't let Rosalie go without finding out.
"What did I say? I know I've hurt your feelings. I'm sorry."
Rosalie knew that she was probably overreacting. But Elizabeth had touched a sensitive topic-one that she'd always found to be a weakness.
"Google the name Roses. To be more specific, the artist named Roses."
Elizabeth quirked a brow and grabbed her phone from her dresser. She typed in the name on Google, and was stunned when she saw the search results. Was Rosalie that artist?
Rosalie crossed her arms over her chest and exhaled a breath. She was waiting on Elizabeth's response, and was growing impatient.
"I'm not sure what to say."
Elizabeth looked up at her and forced a smile. It was an uncomfortable situation to be in. She felt like a bitch. She'd made Rosalie feel inadequate, when Rosalie definitely wasn't. But whether Rosalie was successful or not, Elizabeth didn't care-it was irrelevant.
"You don't have to say anything. At least now you know."
Rosalie wanted to leave. But Elizabeth's body wouldn't let her. She considered lifting Elizabeth out of the way, or forcing her way past.
"Rosalie... thank you for telling me. I'm sorry if I acted like an ass..." Rosalie looked at her with knowing eyes. "Okay. Okay. I was being an ass." Rosalie smiled. "As hard as it is to believe, you intimated me."
"Really?"
Rosalie was surprised. She was intimidated by Elizabeth too.
"Yeah. You're all the things that I wish I could be... you're a pretty fantastic person."
Rosalie felt her cheeks heating up. She didn't know that Elizabeth thought that way about her.
"I'm surprised, to be honest. You can be a bit of a mean girl."
"Defense mechanism and jealousy combined. I'm sorry, but you were Lee's fiancée, and I was pretty jealous. I mean, I don't have any feelings for Lee anymore, but she is my ex-wife, and Henry loves you a lot, and I just felt like you were taking my place."
Rosalie placed her index finger over Elizabeth's lips and pressed her body closer.
"I could never take your place, Elizabeth. You're pretty fantastic yourself."
Elizabeth cupped Rosalie's face with her hands and their lips combined.
"You're definitely going to have to show me one of your pieces now."
Rosalie chuckled.
"I'll show you anything you want."
Elizabeth grinned.
"Anything?"
"You're mind's too clouded with sex. I'll go before you start humping me."
"I bet you'd hump back, bunny."
Rosalie gave a bashful smile.
"I like that."
"Humping?"
Elizabeth's mind was definitely clouded with dirty thoughts.
"Bunny. I love pet names."
Elizabeth placed a kiss on the tip of Rosalie's nose, then upon her forehead.
"I need to get ready for work. You'll text me, right? I might ditch work early if I can."
"I have a full-time job, so I probably won't be available."
Elizabeth narrowed her eyes.
"With flexible hours, correct? You wouldn't miss a chance to spend time with me. I might even take you on a date."
"I like pizza, in case you were pondering a venue."
Elizabeth couldn't believe how lucky she'd gotten to be with Rosalie. She wanted to ask Rosalie to be her girlfriend, and she was going to do it that very night.
