THE NEXT MORNING, Henry drove Lee to retrieve her car from the mechanic's shop, since it had a broken tail light and was being repaired.
"Mama, please don't go."
He knew that it was a good idea for her to leave, but didn't want her to either.
"I'll be in Albany with your grandparents until the New Year. I've already overstayed my welcome the second I stepped foot in town."
Henry sighed.
"What about if I come with you? They've wanted to see me, right?"
"I'd love that. But will your mom be okay with it?"
He nodded and she smiled.
"I'll talk to her, don't worry."
They got into the separate cars and headed back to the cabin.
