Rosalie couldn't deny that she missed everyone, but it was also nice to have time with just her wife and daughter. Kaitlyn was around, but spent most of her time with Charlotte, as long as Charlotte wasn't off with her family.
The fair was a nice place to be for the New Year's Eve. There were rides for Abbi, and lots of booths set up selling a variety of things. There was even a pony giving rides to little kids, and of course, Abbi was riding away like a pro.
Kaitlyn didn't have Charlotte by her side that night. Charlotte was with her mother, trying to escape as soon as she could.
"Grace told me what you told her, Charlotte."
Her mother said, causing Charlotte to sigh. She awaited the the lecture, but it never came.
"What then?"
Charlotte snapped, frustration getting the best of her. She was so tired of hiding her sexuality from her mother. I'm forty-seven, for god's sake.
"I don't appreciate you spreading lies in town." And there's the lecture.
"It's not a lie, mom. Learn to accept the fact that I am-"
The slap that hit her face got her blood boiling. Taking a step back and looking around, she could see so many eyes on them.
"Shut up."
Her mother warned behind gritted teeth.
"I'm not the teenager that you think you can abuse anymore. You sent me away when I was seventeen, you ever wonder why I never came back?" Velma grabbed her daughter's hand in an attempt to settle her down, but Charlotte wasn't having it, "I've always fucked women, mom. Whether you want to believe it or not. Your threats have meant nothing to me."
She yanked her hand away. Kaitlyn noticed the argument and walked over, worry in her eyes.
"Is everything okay?"
Kaitlyn asked, as she looked at Velma. She must be the mother. Rosalie didn't want Abbi to witness any of it, so she took her onto the ferris wheel. But Elizabeth walked over to see what was going on.
"Mind your own business, you lesbian."
Elizabeth blinked a few times, wondering if she'd heard correctly. That was rude. She walked beside Kaitlyn and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Velma, what's going on here?"
Esme walked over and asked her friend. Elizabeth remembered the name. Velma.
"You're Velma Summers, huh?"
Velma didn't answer, instead she looked at Elizabeth with venomous eyes.
"Just leave her alone, will ya? You lesbians always have to cause a problem."
Emse grumbled, as she looked between Kaitlyn and Elizabeth, before settling her eyes on Charlotte.
"Wow, okay. Us lesbians didn't start anything. Tell your friend over there to stop being a homophobic jackass."
Rosalie couldn't help but join the conversation. She'd given Abbi her phone and plugged headphones into her ears, so that she'd listen to music.
"And who are you?"
Esme snarled. Elizabeth laced her fingers with Rosalie and led her beside them.
"None of your business, I'd say."
Callie and Megan walked over with widened eyes. Oh damn.
"You lesbians can't just come in our town and act like you own the place. We've lived here our whole lives."
"And my wife was born and grew up here, if you didn't know. You don't own the town, so you can't determine who can be here and who can't."
Rosalie was fuming. She took a glance at Abbi who sat on a bench nearby, looking back at her.
"You promote such a nasty behavior," Velma complained, "you've got all these girls thinking that they're just like you. It's wrong, and you know it."
"What I promote is equality, if anything, Velma. I can't make anyone gay by just walking around with my wife."
"Wife?" Velma scoffed, "who gave you the right to call her that?"
Elizabeth was then the one to spin out of control.
"Don't you dare insult my marriage," Elizabeth gritted her teeth, Charlotte looked at Kaitlyn with sorrowful eyes, "and accept your daughter for who she is, for god's sake."
"My daughter is no lesbian. Wait and see. You'll all be kicked out when these new investors sweep in. They're going to do a lot of great things for this town, and I doubt they'll want you here when they do."
Elizabeth furrowed her brows? Investors? Is she talking about Rosalie?
"And what are these investors going to do, huh?"
Velma shrugged with a huge smile on her face.
"I'm not sure. But they're buying an entire block and a half." Block and a half?
Elizabeth looked at her wife with a frown.
"I told you not to buy so much," Elizabeth scolded, and Rosalie smiled bashfully, "you really are something else."
Elizabeth turned her attention back to Velma and Esme, who wore confused looks on their faces.
"I guess those investors are these same lesbians, mom," Charlotte said, before walking over to Kaitlyn and taking her hand, "let's get out of here."
Kaitlyn nodded, as they headed over to Abbi.
"I guess we'll see more of each other, Velma."
Elizabeth grinned and walked off with her wife, hand in hand. Velma's face was drained of all color, as she tried to process it all. The crowd went back to their activities, laughing and chatting about the argument that took place.
Rosalie drove everyone back to the cabin, since they decided to break the New Year's right on the porch.
"Mommy, why were you yelling?"
Abbi asked Rosalie, yawning and fidgeting in her seat. She was so tired, but didn't want to go to bed until she saw the fireworks. Everyone else back in New York were at Times Square waiting for the ball to drop, and were on a video call, so that Abbi could get a glance of the celebration for a few minutes.
"Just sticking up for what I believe in, sweetie," Rosalie pulled Abbi into her, "mommy loves you so much."
Abbi smiled and looked into the sky, waiting for the fireworks to dazzle her eyes. Elizabeth came outside with a cup of coffee in her hand. She sat down next to Rosalie and leaned her head against Rosalie's shoulder. Kaitlyn and Charlotte were in the living room doing god knows what. Elizabeth noticed them giving each other googly eyes and decided to give them privacy.
"I love you both."
Elizabeth whispered, caressing Rosalie's cheek with her fingers.
"We love you too, mama."
As the clock striked down, Kaitlyn and Charlotte joined everyone else. The sky lit up with it's first explosive on exactly midnight.
Rosalie pulled her wife in for a kiss, savoring the first moments of the New Year in the arms of the love of her life. They then kissed Abbi's cheeks, giving her a kiss to break the day as well.
When they looked up at Kaitlyn and Charlotte, they were still lip locked and holding onto each other.
"Awww."
Abbi cooed, causing them to part. The blushes on their faces were the perfect start to a great year. As the sky illuminated in different colors, Abbi squealed and pointed. Kaitlyn lifted her granddaughter into her arms, and watched in amazement with her, while Rosalie and Elizabeth sat back enjoying everything around them.
Charlotte wrapped her arm around Kaitlyn's torso, and Elizabeth nudged her wife. Aw, they're so cute together.
