BY THE TIME they were out of the shower, Rosalie's eyes were wide open. Elizabeth had shown her something that she didn't know she would enjoy so much, and it the best present to start of the day.
"Mommy, what took you so long? We're already opening presents."
Andrew ran around the room with his new Ninja Turtles' suit, while Abbi showed her mothers what her grandmother got for her.
"Another Ipad, mum?"
Kaitlyn grinned and shrugged. She didn't know what else to get a little girl whose mothers gave her everything already. Why not buy her the latest version of the device?
"Mommy, aunty Zoe got me a dress!"
Abbi squealed and rushed it over to them. Rosalie grabbed a seat next to her mother and Elizabeth sat on her lap, since there were no other vacant seats but the floor.
"It's so pretty."
Elizabeth held it up for Abbi to look at it properly. She smiled widely and jumped onto her grandmother's lap to reach Rosalie behind Elizabeth.
"Mommy, do you like it?"
Rosalie giggled and nodded.
"Of course I do, babygirl. Wanna see what I got for you now?"
Abbi nodded excitedly and pulled on her mother's hand, making Elizabeth have to retreat off of her, so that she could get up.
"Where are they, mommy?"
Elizabeth sat down and looked at her daughter interact with her wife. And she thinks she's the least favorite.
"They're adorable, aren't they?"
Kaitlyn inhaled a deep breath with a smile on her face. Having grandchildren was an amazing part of growing old, even though she'd never admit that she was actually a grandmother to any of her flings.
"Certainly."
Henry handed Yasmin the gift that he'd bought for her, and her eyes widened, as she opened it.
"Henry, it's-"
"It'll look stunning on you."
She smiled and pulled him in for a hug and a kiss. He helped her try it on and asked the opinion of everyone in the room.
Everyone gave their thumbs up, and went back to opening their own presents. Margaret gifted her wife something that she wasn't expecting that year-a letter. The beautifully written words warmed her heart and put it at ease.
"It will be your last tour?"
Zoe pulled her wife in and began to tear up. It was the best gift that she could have gotten that Christmas. And hopefully, Margaret would be back safe and sound, and never again would Zoe have to worry about her being blown up or shot on the field. It was also a gift to Barbara. Knowing that her daughter was finally going to retire was also the best gift to her, and Michelle was elated too.
Abbi and Andrew squealed with every gift that they opened. They had more gifts than everyone combined, because of course, they were the only kids and everyone adored them.
Rosalie proudly grinned, as she slipped the reindeer sweater that her daughter gifted her over her head and through her arms.
"Wow, I love it."
Abbi giggled, as she gifted Elizabeth the same thing. The wives sported the same sweater gleefully, and pecked each other on the lips.
"I want kisses too, mama."
Elizabeth kissed her daughter's forehead, and Rosalie did the same. Abbi smiled and blushed, feeling love swarm inside of her heart.
After opening presents for the entire morning, the living room was filled with torn gift-wrapping paper. Everyone settled in the kitchen to begin preparing lunch, while the kids played with their toys.
"I still don't think she's old enough to have an Iphone. Who gives their five year old one?"
Elizabeth scolded Rosalie. Michelle scoffed and continued to mash the potatoes.
"That kid's got a better version than me now. Kinda hurts my ego."
Michelle giggled. Rosalie held her stomach and leaned against the kitchen island. She probably shouldn't have eaten so many sour patch kids with Abbi, or drank so much spiked eggnog.
"She needs one just in case she ever gets lost, or when she's at school and needs us."
Elizabeth leaned forward and rolled her head back and forth. She was exhausted from being in the kitchen for so long. Rosalie was the one who usually cooked, and the work was killing her. Luckily, it was winter, so the heat from the kitchen wasn't killing her too.
"You could have gotten her something a lot cheaper, my dear daughter."
Kaitlyn also took a break and placed her hands on her hips. The ham was already in the oven, and the sauce was simmering on the stove. She'd need to stir it in a few seconds.
"Go big or go home, right?"
Elizabeth grabbed the bananas from the pantry and the boxes of strawberries from the fridge.
"I don't think that applies to spoiling children, bunny."
Rosalie shrugged and noticed Yasmin and Henry playfully nudging each other. They seemed so happy in the little time that she'd seen them as a couple, and hopefully, it was a relationship that would last.
She then remembered that she was yet to talk to Michelle about her very private life. It made her stomach ache even more.
"You okay?" Elizabeth squeezed her wife's arm, as she saw her holding onto her stomach tightly, "sit down for a bit."
Elizabeth led Rosalie into the living room and onto the couch. Rosalie sat back and enveloped her wife in her arms.
"Stay with me for a bit."
She whispered, causing a smile to curve Elizabeth's lips. They could hear Abbi arguing with Andrew about how to play a game on their Ipads in the other room. Smiling, Rosalie settled her head against Elizabeth's chest and sighed.
"We should talk more about the move here."
Elizabeth nodded and kissed Rosalie head.
"Not today. Let's just enjoy the holidays, my love. I'm so happy to be spending it with you-"
"And nine other people."
Rosalie sat up and directed Elizabeth's head onto her chest instead.
"It's still the best Christmas I could ask for, as long as I'm with you and Abbi."
Elizabeth closed her eyes and smiled, enjoying the warmth of Rosalie's body against hers.
