Jennivine and Blair sat at a table, and Pennelope stood behind the bar as usual. Jennivine's shift was over, and she was in need of a pick me up. It had been a long and exhausting day, especially because Lee was being a raging pain in the ass. She wanted to get out of there, but just couldn't bring herself to, her legs felt like jello.
"Pennelope, where's Rosalie?"
A woman walked over to the bar. She held a handbag in one hand, and a coffee cup in the other. Pennelope looked at her with the most uninteresting eyes. She could honestly ask the same question. Rosalie had left her apartment, and had been socially non-existent, as far as she knew.
"She's probably at some hotel, why?"
"What's she doing at a hotel?"
Pennelope chuckled. Seemingly, everyone but Janice knew that Rosalie left Lee.
"They broke up, or haven't you heard?"
"Oh, well she probably forgot to say something about it."
Janice found it hard to believe that Rosalie hadn't told her. They hadn't talked in a while-not since that day when they'd got into a little argument. But she was pleased that Rosalie finally took heed to what she'd said.
"I'm sure she did. You should give her a call, hopefully she'll answer."
Pennelope muttered. Rosalie had been ignoring her calls and messages. She'd even left voicemails, yet no response. How was she supposed to tell Rosalie her feelings when the woman wouldn't even let her?
"She hasn't been. Why else would I come here? I certainly don't want to bump into Lee."
Blair and Jennivine eavesdropped on their conversation. They all wanted to know how Rosalie was doing, but no longer for the same reasons. Blair and Jennivine were going strong with their relationship, and nothing was going to mess that up.
"Do you know which hotel she's at?"
Pennelope placed her arms on the countertop and leaned forward. If she knew, she would've already gone in search of Rosalie.
"She's dropped off the face of the earth. Probably took a plane to god knows where."
Pennelope was angry. How could Rosalie do that to her? After everything she'd done for Rosalie, she expected better in return.
"I'm sure that's not true. Doesn't she have anyone here in New York other than Lee? Wait, she's probably wherever her mother is."
Janice rested her coffee cup onto the surface of the bar and fished for her phone inside of her purse. She googled Kaitlyn Watson, and found that her current location was New York. So, Rosalie was definitely still in New York.
"She's here. Now, let me see if I can find her."
Pennelope looked at Janice with questioning eyes. She gave off a stalker crazy vibe.
"If she doesn't want to be found, don't go looking for her. You don't want to face the repercussions."
"But I need to know where she is, I'm in... I just need to tell her something."
Pennelope could sniff out the desperation from a mile away. Janice had feelings for Rosalie too.
"Join the club. There's a long line."
Janice narrowed her eyes and huffed. She should've told Rosalie how she'd felt since that day, but how could she? Rosalie didn't seem to reciprocate the same feelings. Not at all.
"Are you in the line?"
Pennelope scoffed. She definitely was. And it didn't seem as though she'd ever reach the front of that line, and neither would Janice.
"What are you doing here, Janice?"
Janice and Pennelope gulped. They looked at Lee with widened eyes. How much did she hear?
"I was just stopping in. Got to go."
She was about to leave when Lee blocked her path to the exit.
"You're looking for Rosalie, right?"
Janice nodded hesitantly. Something about Lee had always scared the bejeezus out of her.
"Yeah. Haven't heard from her in a while."
"She's at the Richmond. Room 204."
Lee had known where Rosalie was staying all that time, and had been keeping an eye on her. Rosalie was visiting Henry a lot, but when Lee saw Rosalie in Elizabeth's arms, she nearly smashed her dashboard, realizing that Rosalie had been actually visiting Elizabeth. She was done with Rosalie. Rosalie turned out to be as slutty as they came. How could Elizabeth do that to her? How could Rosalie do that to her? It disgusted Lee that they were together. And she was done with them both.
"Oh, thanks."
Lee chuckled. She always knew that Janice was in love with Rosalie, but Rosalie was just too naive to see it.
"And if you're going to profess your undying love for her, she's been fucking my ex-wife, so make sure she's tested before you fuck her too. Don't know what she's picked up since we broke up."
Janice felt her jaw drop and Pennelope did too, including Blair and Jennivine. Were they all hearing correctly? Lee had a nasty mouth, if not anything else.
"I'm with a decent human being, which you certainly aren't."
Rosalie stood at the restaurant's door with her arms crossed over her chest. Janice had messaged her about being at the restaurant, and she decided to head there. But she didn't expect what she'd walked in on.
"Oh, the slut's here. You collected all of your trash already, so what are you doing here, Roses?"
Rosalie frowned. Did Lee really just call her that in front of everyone? Was she that full of malice?
"You're fucking unbelievable. Who I fuck has nothing to do with you. We're broken up, and it certainly doesn't concern anyone else who thinks that they're interested or in love with me."
Janice walked over to Rosalie with the best set of puppy dog eyes that she could manage.
"I just want a chance, Rosalie."
Rosalie hated when she broke hearts. But what was she to do? She needed to set them free from the illusion. They didn't truly love her, or want to be with her. Basically, all they wanted was a chance to fuck her.
"Janice, I'm dating someone. And you need to realize that I'm not it for you. You'll find someone special sooner or later. I just don't understand why the only two friends that I had, ended up only wanting to be with me. Even potential friends (Jennivine and Blair). All everyone wants is my body. Can't you see that I want someone who is attracted to me on a deeper level? Who doesn't see me as a piece of meat? This is why I've decided to relinquish contact."
"But Rosalie, I really do..."
"Janice, what is it that you like about me? Pennelope, the same question goes for you. And the answer can't be something about my looks."
"You're kind and sweet and thoughtful."
Pennelope yelled from across the room.
"Well, I'm with someone already."
"But you don't love her, right? Why can't you give me a chance? I've waited years to..."
"You all are so pathetic!"
Lee yelled. She'd had enough.
"I'm sorry, but I should go. Don't expect to hear from me anytime soon, or ever, for that matter."
Rosalie looked around the room that held women with pain in their eyes. Was she really the cause of all that pain? A couple seated at a table got up and left. They'd witnessed everything, including the guy, in a suit, who was too busy on his laptop to notice anything out of the ordinary.
"Rosalie, please don't do this."
Both Pennelope and Janice said. Lee was disinterested at that point and headed into the kitchen to avoid the situation. Blair and Jennivine sat with concerned, yet painful eyes. They both knew that it was for the best. With Rosalie completely out of the picture, they could focus on each other. But Pennelope and Janice didn't have a significant other to fall back on, which made it harder for them.
"Pennelope, Janice... you two were the closest people I had as friends, which must say a lot about me. I didn't know that you two felt this way. I always thought we were just good friends, nothing else. I need to find friends that will stay just friends, and you two need to find someone who isn't me. Because even if I wasn't with Elizabeth, I still wouldn't be with any of you."
That hurt them a lot.
"You're really cold-hearted."
Janice said as she began to cry. Rosalie couldn't stand it anymore. Why should she feel guilty when she'd done nothing wrong? How did she ever think that they were her friends? They must have always had ulterior motives, how did she never realize?
"I don't care."
Rosalie said before exiting the restaurant. She would never go back there-never.
