Kitten

'They're filthy Nighteye.' Kai muttered, softly petting his cat. She was black with white paws and purple eyes. He named her Nighteye after the hero he saw on TV when he got her. 'Every one of them.'

Nighteye mewled and got up on Kai's lap where he continued to pet her. 'Except you. You're okay.' He said he knew she probably didn't understand nor care what he meant by filthy, but he wanted to say it anyway in case she could. 'And Manticore. Manticore is nice. She takes care of me. Have you met Manticore yet? She hasn't been home in a while. I wonder if she's okay...' He muttered to her.

Nighteye rubbed against his chest, almost in a comforting way. Kai almost smiled, almost.

'Do you think Manticore is okay Nighteye?'

They were walking around Tokyo, stopping occasionally to talk to random fans and things. Kai tugged uncomfortably on the collar, people were asking him questions too, assuming he was some sidekick. Rock Lock was always quick to disprove that theory. Which Overhaul was glad about because that meant they lost interest.

He felt a tug on his pants and looked down. 'Yes, Niki?'

'I'm sorry about daddy. You at least deserved a warning, a 'Hey don't go that far.' Or 'I lowered the range.' At least.' He apologizes.

Kai sighed and crouched so he was at Niki's height, a few hives making their way onto his skin and he patted his head. 'It's not your fault, but I appreciate it thank you.' He smiled. He stood back up and was met with a furious glare from Takagi. 'What?'

'What were you doing to my kid?'

'I wasn't doing anything.' Kai responded calmly. 'I was just telling him it wasn't his fault you didn't warn me about the decreased range.'

'Niki is that true?'

'Yes!' He defended.

Ken hesitated. 'Fine. Let's just go.'

They continued walking for around an hour before being bombarded by fans. Before Rock Lock could even say 'Hi' Kai spoke up first: 'I'm not a Bodyguard, I'm not a sidekick, I'm not a friend, don't talk to me.' Most understood but some still tried to talk to him. Although after they realized he wasn't gonna talk back they left him alone.

Kai leaned against the wall of an alleyway. He remembered doing a dealing here but he couldn't remember with who. He felt filthy with how many germs were around. He scratched his arms and hands where there were the most hives. 'Damn...'

'Mew.' His attention was brought to a small alleycat. It was black, white paws, and golden eyes. Almost exactly like Nighteye. 'Mew.'

He got on one knee and reached over to pet it forgetting about his Germaphobia, 'Hey there.' He said softly, with a smile he rubbed the cat's ear.

The cat backed away before walking back over to him slowly. 'Mew.' It said again.

Kai stroked its fur gently. It was dirty and scarred. Kai felt bad for the Kitten, it couldn't have been more than a few months old. 'Mister?' Niki asked.

'Hm, oh hey.' He smiled, not even looking at him, he just kept petting the small kitten.

'What are you doing?'

'Petting a cat what does it look like?' He sarcastically, picking the kitten up gently and putting it on his chest. It was shivering.

'Can I pet it?'

'Sure.' He said, letting Niki pet it, it whined but eventually got used to it. It was starting to warm up against Kai's chest.

'What are you two doing?'

'Petting a cat what does it look like?' Niki repeated in the same sarcastic tone as Kai.

'Niki?' He asked, surprised by his tone.

'Ha, nice.' Kai smirked.

'Let's go.'

'Can we take it to a shelter?' Niki asked.

Takagi hesitated before sighing. 'Fine.'
