Lunch was less awkward than the heroes were expecting. The three talked and Kai ate silently. He wasn't a very talkative person, anyone could tell.
'Hey, Birdman?' Kirishima asked. He looked up. 'What did you mean 'The only love we had was we didn't kill each other'?'
He shrugged. 'Exactly what I said, no one killed anyone while they were asleep, and that's about the only 'Love' we had.'
'Well, why would you want to kill each other?'
'Again, no one liked anyone. It was just me and my dad, I don't have any siblings.'
'Wow, so you had to do all the chores.'
'No, not really.' He said, 'Grew up in a rich family, we had maids. Besides, I was busy a lot.'
Fatgum remembered him saying something about being overworked, he decided not to mention it.
'So... What did you do when you weren't villaining?' Kirishima asked.
Kai sighed, 'Well I played a lot of Shogi. Read. Paperwork, I talked with Kurono.'
'You play Shogi?' Tamaki asked.
'Yes.' He muttered. 'An old friend got me into it.'
'And who would that be?'
'Her name is Manticore. She was my guardian.'
'What about your father?' Tamaki asked.
'He was always busy, didn't have any time.'
'Oh... So you and father didn't really know each huh?' Kirishima sympathized.
'I'm done here. Thank you for lunch Fatgum.' Kai was just about fed up with the questions.
'You didn't even finish.' Kirishima pouted, he had helped make it.
'What? Do you want it?' He offered.
'Sure I guess.'
'Fine, it's yours.'

Kai had fallen asleep when Fatgum knocked on his door. He wanted to get Kai new clothes, but he wanted to bring Kai with him. Because 1. He didn't know what kind of clothes he liked. And 2. He didn't know what size he was.
'Who is it..?' His voice sounds groggy.
'I was just wondering if you could come to the store with me.' He asked.
He heard groaning, then shuffling, then the click of the lock, he had locked it? Was he expecting Fatgum to just barge in? 'Why?' He asked, opening the door.
'Well, I figured you wanted to get out of the prison uniform. So we could go to the store and get you some clothes. But I don't know your preference or size, so I thought you could come with me.'
Kai sighed and rubbed his eyes. 'Fine.'

The car ride was just like the first one, Fatgum tried to make conversation but Overhaul wouldn't speak.
Once they got in the store they were bombarded by fans. Overhaul would've left if it weren't for the damned collar, it blocked his quirk, yes, but it also doubled as a shock collar where if he strayed too far from the matching bracelet Fatgum wore, it send a paralyzing surge of electricity through him until Fatgum got back to him.
He tugged on the collar as if hoping for it to snap. Fatgum could tell just how uncomfortable Kai was getting as people asked him questions about who he was, why he was wearing a Tartarus Prison Uniform, what crime he committed, why he did it, why he was with Fatgum.
'Okay, everyone. It was wonderful meeting all of you. But could you please move, we are in a bit of a hurry.' Fatgum said politely.
The crowd slowly dispersed as Kai could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
They went to the clothes section, he let Kai look at different clothes, but it was hard to tell if he liked them or not. His face remained blank and expressionless.
'Hey, Kai?'
'Hm?' He hummed as he looked at the tag of a plain black shirt.
'It's been bothering me for a while... What's with the scars are your arms?'
Kai picked the shirt off the rack. 'It doesn't matter, the past is in the past.'
'Please?' Fatgum begged.
Kai sighed and looked over to him, 'Look, some things happened when I was younger. Things I don't want to talk about. I'll tell you if I have no choice, but I'd prefer not to.'
Fatgum hesitated. 'I'd like to know. But if it makes you feel better I won't make you talk about it here.'
Kai looked down to the ground. He seemed like he just wanted to evaporate to get out of this situation. 'Haven't I told you enough?'
'Not about the scars, Kai.'
He closed his eyes, welcoming the darkness as he tried to block out the swirling tsunami of thoughts he was desperate to get out of his head. 'Fine.' He finally muttered, maybe talking about it with someone other than the voices in his head would be good for him.
Fatgum smiled, 'Thank you.'
After a few hours (Which felt like years to Kai who would rather be literally anywhere else) Fatgum told him it was enough for a few months and they paid and left.
'So, about those scars.'
