'Pops.' Kai muttered.

'Yes, Kai?'

'I did the right thing, didn't I? Leaving my father was the right thing to do right?'

Pops sighed and pat his head. Kai looked up at him, his eyes were glossy. 'Of course, you did. I know it feels weird now, but it's going to get better. I promise.' He smiled.

Kai leaned against him, closing his eyes. He felt comfortable, he felt safe. 'Pops?'

'Yes?'

'Why do you care about me... I'm not your real son. We aren't related. So-'

'Kai, I care about you the same way I care about everyone. Related or not I love you.'

Kai's eyes widened, before squinting as he started crying. His father never said that to him, he never once told him he loved him. He always said 'You should already know how I feel' but he never told him that he loved him. 'Thank you.' He whispered.

Hari started groaning and moved to his side. 'I've always been able to use my quirk. I just haven't.' Kai replied, brushing hair from Kurono's face, he wanted to see him more. He was still unconscious, but his breathing was slowing down from his former more ragged breathing. Kai smiled softly, glad that he was healed.

'Wait if you could use it this whole time why haven't you?' Fatgum asked.

'Because of the collar. You thought it worked and it made you feel safer. So I didn't use my quirk to keep up the illusion.' Kai explained. He wanted other people to feel safe around him.

Toyomitsu was surprised, so Kai could use his quirk the entire time, but he didn't to make him feel safe? 'Okay, wow. Okay... I appreciate that Kai. But if that's the case why haven't you tried to run away?'

'Well as you saw with Rock Lock, the collar does serve its purpose as a shock collar. So I haven't been able to get away. Not that I've tried at all.' He muttered the last part.

'But why didn't you just destroy the collar?' A guard asked.

'Like I said I wanted to keep up the illusion. If it made Fat feel safe then I was willing to pretend. Besides, it's not like I wanted to run away, I like Fatgum.'

Hari started shifting around, sitting up. 'K-Kai?' He asked.

'Hari!' He exclaimed, 'Are you okay? Does it hurt? Do you need anything? Water maybe-'

'Kai, Kai, I'm okay.' He laughed, putting a hand on his shoulder before moving it to his cheek, wiping away what was left of his tears, 'What happened?'

'Probably Nyx and Atlas. Atlas can fight very well thanks to his quirk, so Nyx came along to kill you.'

'Kill me?!' He yelled, he rubbed his temples. 'Wait wait, okay... So let me guess, your father sent you daisies?'

'Mhm.' He said, 'I- I don't want to talk about it okay? I just-'

'You're happy I'm okay?' He smiled, 'I'm glad I'm okay too.' He hugged him. 'Thanks, Kai.'

'Hey,' Fatgum broke in, 'What if I convinced the warden and they the rest of the gang to let you two stay together?'
