'P-Please... I'm sorry.'

'Daw, how cute, you think apologies will make up for you calling the police. You could've gotten me in big trouble Kai.' Terugo Chisaki put a knife under his only child's chin. He was only 12-years-old and was never told anything but his father's ideals. But he wasn't as ignorant as people hoped, he knew what his father wanted was wrong.

'Father, please!' He begged he struggled to get out of the straps that tied him to the cold medical chair, he was shirtless and his jeans had been ripped to shorts to make what they were going to do easier.

Poltergeist grabbed his mouth and slammed his head against the chair to keep him quiet. Tears welled in his eyes as the pain of the knife sliced into his arm.

His muffled screams were high-pitched more like shrieks. His tears rolled down his face and Poltergeist's ghostly hand.

Once they were finally done cutting him open, Poltergeist carried him on his back, crimson red blood dripping on the white tiled floors.

'You're damn lucky kid if it wasn't for the fact Terugo was my boss I'd have killed you years ago. Call it an accident.'

Kai was too exhausted to even react to Hiro's threat. He was dropped into an ice bath that was supposed to help numb the pain, it only made them sting more.

The clear water turned red nearly instantly. 'I want to go home...'

'So, about those scars.'

Kai didn't want to answer that, but he had already agreed. 'Fine... Look, I used to be a very suicidal person. I was always cutting my arms, trying to get some relief.

'That's not healthy, maybe I should take you to therapy?'

'No!' Kai snapped. 'You've already forced me into multiple things I didn't want what more do you want from me?!'

'Okay okay.' Why was he so uptight about this?

The rest of the drive was silent. It was kinda sad honestly, Kai just stared out the window, hoping that something would distract him from the raging thoughts swarming his mind.

'Hey, Overhaul.' No response. 'Kai.'

'What?'

'Would you like to get some books? I can't necessarily get you a phone but at least it'll give you something to do.' Fatgum offered.

Kai turned to stare at him, his eyes narrowed suspiciously, 'What are you playing at here?'

'What do you mean?' Fatgum asked.

'Why are you pretending to care about me? Why fake it?'

'I'm not faking anything?' Fatgum raises an eyebrow, why was he so suspicious of everyone and everything?

Kai had a look of sad hope in his eyes like he wanted to believe him, but just couldn't. 'I don't believe you.' He turned to look back out the window.

Fatgum could see the scars more now, Kai had put on a new outfit, a black shirt, jeans, and white tennis shoes. It was almost sad just how many he had. They were incredibly faded but still visible. If you looked close enough you could see red staining and his arm was bandaged from him scratching it so much.

'Kai... I do just want to help if you'd just let me.' He said softly.

'You can start by not calling me Kai, it's Overhaul to you.' He hissed. See the thing is he only wanted the people he trusted and cared about to call him by his name. To anyone else, it was Boss, Sir, or Overhaul.

Fat sighed, 'Alright. If you say so.'

Kai closed his eyes. 'Books sound nice...'

*Toyomitsu smiled and pulled into the nearest library.

It felt weird against Kai's skin, the sunlight and heat. He had gotten so used to the long sleeves of his uniform the summer sun felt strange.

'So what kind of- Oh?' Toyo was going to ask what stuff he read but Overhaul had already stopped at a Manga shelf. He walked up behind him and looked at the Manga he was looking at. 'I didn't know you liked Manga.'

'You don't know much about me at all really.' Kai mumbled and picked a book up, flipping to the back to read the summary.

'Well... Yeah, no that's fair.' Toyomitsu scratched his neck.

Kai sighed and put the book back. 'Do you know if they have The Exorcist here?'

'Uhh, I think it's on one of the other shelves.'

'Alright. You know where it is?'

'Uh, I think so. C'mon.'

After another ten minutes, they were back in the car and headed back to Fatgum's house.

Once they got there Kai decided to go back to sleep, he was still tired. He took his shoes off and put them outside the door then closed and locked it again. He had no trust that Toyomitsu wouldn't barge in. His father was constantly doing the same.

'I wanna go back to the base.' He muttered before falling asleep.
