'Kai, so good to see you!'
Kai looked behind him, having to step back because of his mask. He didn't want to hit whoever was behind him. Kurono reached for his knife but Kai stopped him.
'No.' He whispered, 'She looks 63 don't kill her just run.'
The woman laughed, 'I know you don't remember me, but I knew your Grandmother. And in turn, I knew your mother.'
'I-I'm sorry?' He asked, 'How do you-'
'I worked under your Grandma, Izo was such a kind lady. All her products were dirt cheap so anyone could afford them. She gave free blankets and pillows and fresh clothes to the homeless. I can tell you so many stories.'
Hari was better at reading lies than Kai was so, his first instinct was to look for reassurance. And... He nodded, the woman was telling the truth. Kai breathed out a sigh of relief. He didn't want to get caught up in another fantasy. 'You know, I'd like that.'
The woman reached into her bag and pulled out a piece of candy, 'Butterscotch?'

By the time Kai got home, there was a different car there. 'Hm, that's strange... Does Fat have someone over?' Come to think of it the car did look familiar.
Kai opened the door and was immediately assaulted with a pillow. 'Gah! Who just assaulted me with a-'
'Kai Chisaki!' A strangely familiar voice yelled. He flinched, the last time someone said his full name his father tried to kill him. 'When were you going to introduce me to your husband?!'
Kai gasped, 'S-Sobo?' Izo Chisaki, his grandmother, was standing right in front of him. 'B-But I saw you die...'
'Incorrect. You saw my flatline. You did not see me die.'
'Are those not the same thing?'
'No sweetheart they're not.' She said. 'Because the doctors were actually able to cure me. But since they couldn't find anyone by the time they saved me, you and your father had already signed the paperwork and moved to Tokyo. I had no choice but to let him take you...' She held Kai's shoulders. 'I-I'm so sorry. I meant to protect you. I meant to keep you safe. I'm so sorry Kai... I'm so sorry.' She refused to cry. Not here. His grandmother was a hardened businesswoman. She couldn't look- 'Eh?!'
Kai hugged her and wouldn't let go. 'It's not your fault Sobo. It's not your fault Fathe-' He sighed. 'It's not your fault Terugo poisoned you.'
Izo sighed. 'I still can't believe you pleaded for that monster in court.'
'Wait, that raises a new question.' Hari asked. 'Once Terugo was defeated why didn't you come to get Kai?'
'Because I knew Pops as well. I knew he was a good man and I knew he'd adopt you. And besides, even though you were terrified of what'd you do to her once that bastard was gone I knew you started looking forward to meeting Eri. And it worked out right?'
'Yeah.' Kai smiled. 'It did.'
