'Hey, Kai.'
'Hm, oh. Hello Hari.'
'What you up to?' He asked.
Kai turned away. He didn't want to admit what he was thinking about. 'Smoking, what's it look like.' He asked, bringing the Cigarette back to his mouth.
'Y'know, it's not good for you to smoke.' He said, leaning against the railing, 'Wow.'
'Wow, what?'
'The view. I can see why you like being up here, it's beautiful.' Hari admired.
Kai smiled. 'Yeah, I love the view up here. It's like it's our own little galaxy. The colorful lights, the sounds of music, granted it's still not perfect, but from here?' He chuckled, 'Could've fooled me.'
Hari smiled, he and Kai were 18 by now, it had only been a year since he was saved from his father and he's already seemed to get over it.
'Hey Kai, how are your scars? Are they healing well?' He asked, taking a small step closer to him.
'Oh, they're alright.' He rolled up his sleeves, revealing a storm of faded red scaring from his father's twisted experiments, and the Backalley Brawls he was forced to participate in. 'They seem to be healing okay.'
'That's good.' He smiled.

Dinner went okay. Eri was chatty, Overhaul was quiet as usual. He tried to speak, but he was overwhelmed and talked over. Eri noticed and tried to get everyone to quiet down, but he said it was okay and let them continue their conversation.
Kai eventually got up and went back upstairs, much to Eri's displeasure but it wouldn't be the first time he's left in the middle of a social event.
The floor in his room was Tatami and the walls were made from some type of wood, it looked like a traditional Japanese home. There was a balcony where he should've been able to go out and look around outside, but the door to that was locked.
He sighed and sat down on the bed. He couldn't very well lay down, the bed hurt his back. He wasn't a side sleeper either so it would've been hard. Each time Fatgum 'woke him up' he had gotten only about five minutes of sleep due to the pain. Was he going to tell him what was happening? No. Was he going to complain about it in his head? Yes.
Kai rolled up his sleeves and stared at the scars leftover from his spars and the experiments conducted on him. He didn't like that he lied to Fatgum but he wasn't just gonna tell him. At least he told the truth at the interrogation, kinda... He did sugarcoat a lot of things. And he didn't even mention the punishments.
A chill ran down his spine remembering. If he had to choose he'd say his favorite (i.e the least painful) was the first punishment he got. His Grandmother made him write sentences, but that was back when he lived with her.
His least favorite... Probably his Father's favorite. He hung mangled corpses from the ceiling and filled the bath with ice-cold blood and forced him to soak in there for hours, he once caught the flu from it, but with the dead bodies he's lucky that's all he caught.
His skin was stained red from how much Terugo forced him through that. The staining was still there if you looked close enough.
Kai also had a multitude of scars on his back from being slammed against the walls as another form of punishment. He remembered the Nomus he fought for his Father's entertainment.
He sighed and tried lying down but shot back up, god it hurt so bad. There was a knock on the door, 'Kai, can Eri come in?'
'Sure.'
The door opened and Eri ran in, sitting down on the bed next to him. Toyomitsu closed the door again, 'You know, you are a strange little girl. Why do you want to hang out with me?'
'Well didn't you apologize?'
'Yeah but-'
'Well, that's all I wanted.' She smiled. 'And you even said you loved me.'
'Of course, I've always considered you as my daughter...' He spoke slower as the sentence continued. 'Sorry.'
'It's okay, you said you had a reason. Even if I don't know it, and I don't understand... It's okay.'
Kai smiled at her, 'Thank you, Eri.'
