Quinn
Five years ago

I am running late. The day at my new school, really Quinn? It wasn't my fault. Mom's car broke down, and I had to go by myself.

Stupid car, I knew I should have taken the bus.

I didn't want to move here. Thunder Bay seems like a horror town. I don't know why. It gives me the creeps.

It's also the first time I ever get to walk alone. If my mom hadn't yelled, I wouldn't have taken off.

What? Would I be in school if I hadn't?

This is way easier. Without my sister involved, too. I didn't need her pushing me away. She always did this. Every time we got to school, she would drive me but then, she'd act as if she never saw me. As if I didn't exist. My sister had everything, why bother?

Squeezing the strap of my backpack, I try to make sense of where I am going. Everything feels right, I still have ten minutes before classes start.

Then, why do I feel like someone is watching me?

I look over my shoulder but no one's there. My heart thumps against my chest, my cheeks getting warmer as I walk faster.

Someone is definitely following me.

I can't help but look behind me.

It takes several minutes until I see him. A man in a dark coat. He's on the other road and I knew this town was a horror one.

I turn around and make eye contact with the guy. He's old, very old.
He pretends like he has not been following me or watching me.

He's stalking me, isn't he?

As I find the courage to turn back around, I bump into someone. He almost knocks me off my feet but he gently pulls me back up.

I shake my head.

Is it him?

How did he get here so fast?

''Play along'' he whispers. Slowly, I blink my eyes open.

Wow.

The guy in front of me has brown hair and his eyes are also brown. Not just a regular brown. There are flicks of gold hidden inside them. I try to make out the shape of them and a beautiful smirk appears on his features.

As I thought he couldn't look more handsome.

He raises a brow and looks down at his hands.

Play along, he said.

Play along, Quinn.

''You bought a copy! I told you I'd lend you mine'' I glance and in the corner of my eyes, I see the guy in the dark coat, he has stopped and now is watching us.

What the heck?

''It is yours''

''You stole my book?'' I try to catch a glimpse of the guy in the dark coat but the guy in front of me takes my hands.
