73: ATTENTION

"MISS ATTENTION-SEEKER"

"Can you stop doing that?"

"Doing what?"she answered me while sniffing and wiping her own damn tears.

I rolled my eyes. "That."

"I'm not doing anything!"she screamed which made me frown.

"Yeah. Whining is not an action now. Great." I said sarcastically.

"Olivia, you're not helping." she pouted.

"Faroah, you're not helping yourself either."

"Yeah, that's why you gotta help me!"

"But you got to help yourself too. I'm not always around, Roa. There are times you'll be alone-"

"No!" I was taken aback when she shouted. I immediately knew she's probably mad on what I said.

"Yes dear. People are not always here for you. You've got to learn how to stand up for yourself."

She whined louder. "No!No!I don't want to be alone!I can't!" she screamed.

I sighed, trying to control myself dahil baka bigla ko nalang masampal si Roa sa ingay niya.

"You will not leave me, Olivia."

"Fine, just shut the fuck up."

"Lily, punta tayo sa cafeteria, libre ko." yaya sa akin ni Roa pagkalabas ko ng room. Magkatabi lang naman ang classroom namin pero hindi pa rin nawawala ang pagiging clingy niya.

"Sorry Roa, bumili ng snacks si Aiden para sa aming dalawa. You can join us if you want."I said. Last month lang simula nang maging kami ni Aiden. Of course Roa doesn't approve but I set aside her opinions and continue to date Aiden. After all, Aiden's nice and if I know that's just Roa being clingy to me as always.

I can see anger in her eyes but continues to smile anyway. "S-Sige mamaya nalang."

"Ay nga pala, sabay ka sa amin later. Susunduin daw ako ni Aiden after ng class niya."

"Aiden na naman!"she shouted. Dahil rito, pinagtinginan kami bigla ng mga tao. I became aware of that and decided to walk away. I know how much Roa loved attention kaya alam kong may kasunod pa iyon. Kaya bago pa niya ako hilahin sa kahihiyan, aalis na ako.

Isa rin iyon sa dahilan bakit walang kaibigan si Roa. Kapag nagkakaroon siya ng kaibigan, nagiging katulad sa akin ang pakikitungo niya. She becomes clingy and she wants her friend's attention to be with her. Hanggang sa either lumilipat ng school or section yung kaibigan niya at iniiwanan siya. Ako lang naman ang nagtatagal sa ugali niya pero minsan ay nagsasawa na rin ako.

I heard her scream before I left the scene and went to the rooftop. Doon namin napagkasunduan ni Aiden na mag-lunch. Nang makarating, naabutan ko siyang nakaupo at naghahanda. Nang mapansin ako, agad siyang kumaway sa akin.

"Buti nakatakas ka sa kaibigan mo." he said before kissing me on the cheeks.

"Oo nga e."

"Why can't you just leave her if nasasakal ka na?You can always transfer school."

"I can't." our mother's are best friends too so they're happy to see that Roa and I are bonding so well. Nung malaman ng mommy ni Roa na walang kumakaibigan na iba sa kanya, nakiusap siya sa akin na intindihin si Roa. Ayaw niya maging mag-isa si Roa sa journey raw na tatahakin niya. "I promised that's why I can't leave her."

"Pero hindi naman tama na palagi nalang ganito, Olly. She always drags you in humiliation, sinasakal ka niya, tapos pinakikialaman pa niya ang mga desisyon mo sa buhay. Saka, naalala mo ba?Nagsinungaling din siya dati para lang maghiwalay tayo."

That's true. Isang linggo matapos maging kami ni Aiden, nagpakalat ng balita si Roa na may iba raw babae na dine-date si Aiden. Ipinakalat niya ang pictures kasama ang babaeng ito kaya sa galit ko ay naisip ko na siyang hiwalayan noon. Tapos nalaman naming pinsan niya pala iyon na kauuwi lang galing US. Kailangan pa tuloy pumunta ng pinsan niya sa school para magpaliwanag sa nangyari.

"I'm her only friend, Aiden. I just can't leave her like that."

He shrugged. "Ikaw, bahala ka. Kumain nalang tayo, alam mo ba nagluto si mommy nang malaman niyang sabay tayong kakain?"

I should've known that that was the last day I would be able to talk to him and that leaving my best friend alone is the best idea after all.

"What happened?!"I shrieked when I discovered the gruesome scene happening in the cabin we used as a secret playground way back.

My tears fell down involuntarily as I watched Aiden grasping for air while his throat's slit open.

Mabilis akong tumakbo sa kanya at tinakpan ng panyo ang leeg niya upang tumigil ang patuloy na pag-agos ng dugo mula rito. It shatters me seeing him cough in blood while trying to speak.

As I was crying, I saw someone wiping the knife she just used to slitting Aiden's throat.

Farroah.

Her smug face disappear when she saw me weeping on the ground. She became bubbly and ecstatic as always. "Lily, you're here! Stop trying to save him, he'll die anyway." she said innocently as if what she did was justifiable.

"What did you do?!" I shouted.

"He's stealing you from me! Hindi ko na kayang makita ka kasama ang lalaking yan! I hate the fact that you're always with him over and over again! Siya nalang lagi! Simula nang naging kayo, kinalimutan mo na ako! You're the only one who stayed with me, Lily. I can't afford losing you."

I choked at my own tears. "Y-You already lose me when you did this to Aiden."

Her eyes widened. "No! You're still here. We can work things out, right? Now that Aiden's gone, we can go back to the way we were."

"You fucking psychopath!"

"Shut up!"she kicked me in the face which made me fall down to the floor. Mabilis naman niyang na-realize ang ginawa niya. "I'm sorry Lily, I'm sorry!I'm sorry!" saka itinaas ang kamay para tulungan akong makatayo pero hindi ko tinanggap iyon.

"I'll call the police!" I said before standing up and running outside. I heard her scream again but I continue running. We played in this forest since childhood, I know the way out.

But she runs faster than me plus she took a shortcut so in just seconds, she's in front of me already.

I can see her eyes swollen because of crying. "Please don't!They'll separate us!Please!" she begged but I'm determined to leave.

I took the other way around and run again, the fastest I could. And then, I made it into the road, screaming for help. Other people went outside their houses and ask what's wrong.

Kahit kapos sa hininga pinilit jong magsalita. "Call the police. P-please. S-She killed my boyfriend. Please!" I begged. They immediately did as I said but before the police came, Roa was already walking towards me.

"Sorry po sa kaibigan ko. She tends to have panic attacks when she's interacting with other people. I...I can calm her down."

"No!Don't give me to her!Please!" nagsalit salit ang tingin ng mga tao sa aming dalawa. Bago pa makapagsalita muli si Roa, bigla kaming nakarinig ng sirena.

"Farroah Jules, you are arrested for the first degree murder of James Aiden Steinsworth. You have the right to remain..." I sighed when finally, the police arrested her after I pointed out where Aiden is.

Pero nang pinosasan na si Roa ay nag-echo ng paulit ulit sa pandinog ko ang mga sinabi niya. "No!No!Babalik ako!Babalikan kita, Lily!Babalik ako!"

That sent shivers down my spine. Despite her being arrested I know,

She'll be back.
