Finding You, Part 4, Chapter 10 —
At Skye and Lorenzo's
Genevieve came downstairs wearing a dress that Skye wanted her to wear, but she hates dresses. Everyone was still upstairs when the doorbell rang. "Jamie, Daddy, Mother," Genevieve said, but no one came in, so she opened the door. It was Dr. Collins. "Dr. Collins, Come in. I will get my brother," Genevieve said. They went into the living room where Skye and Lorenzo were. "Dr. Collins is here to see Luis," Genevieve said. "No, he's not here to see Luis. Genevieve, your father and I want you to talk to Dr. Collins," Skye said as she approached Genevieve. "Why do I need to talk to Dr. Collins? Is it about the scary movie last night?" Genevieve asked. "No, it's not. We worry about you," Skye said, touching Genevieve's shoulder. "Is this because I don't say that word to you? Is it a punishment because I will not say it to you?" Genevieve said. "It's not a punishment," Lorenzo said. "Well, you're wasting your money and Dr. Collins's time because I'm not talking to him," Genevieve responded, crossing her arms. "We can just talk," Dr. Collins said. "Yes, you can go into the sunroom," Skye said. "I hate you, Mother," Genevieve said. "I know," Skye replied, taking Genevieve's hand, and they headed into the sunroom. "Genevieve, please open up to Dr. Collins. I'm worried about you," Skye urged. "Don't," Genevieve said, and Skye left the room, closing the door behind her. "You hate this, don't you?" Dr. Collins asked. "You can't force someone to open up," Genevieve replied. "No, you're right," Dr. Collins agreed. "I will not talk to you," Genevieve said, trying to open the door, but Lorenzo from the other side locked it. "Daddy!" Genevieve yelled. "Genevieve," Dr. Collins called out. "Daddy locked it. All the doors in this house lock from the other side," she explained. "Well, I guess we are stuck here," Dr. Collins said. "I was told it's normal for people with my IQ not to say those words," Genevieve said. "Yes, it is," Dr. Collins confirmed. "Do you have a high IQ?" Genevieve asked. "Yes, I do," Dr. Collins replied. "My parents were lucky to have a child as smart as me. You would think they'd be happy about it," Genevieve said. "They are. Your parents are just worried about you," Dr. Collins explained. "Well, I'm not going to say those words just to make them happy," Genevieve stated. "Alright," Dr. Collins said. "Do you like being a shrink?" Genevieve asked. "Yes, I do," Dr. Collins answered. "I'm going to be a lawyer when I grow up," Genevieve announced. "That's good," Dr. Collins said. "I'm going to put a man like my father away. It's his fault about Luis, and my mother getting shot—it was all my father's fault!" Genevieve yelled. "Do you feel better?" Dr. Collins asked. "No," Genevieve replied, grabbing a book and throwing it at the glass door of the sunroom, shattering some of the glass. "That feels good," she added. Inside the living room, Skye and Lorenzo heard the glass break and came to the sunroom to see Genevieve holding a book. "I don't care if I'm in trouble. That feels good," she said and threw the book again at the glass. "Genevieve, stop this," Lorenzo said. "No, let her," Dr. Collins said. "I like that sound of the glass breaking," Genevieve said. "Enough," Skye commanded. Skye took the book from Genevieve. "How did that make you feel?" Dr. Collins asked. "Good. I want to break some more," Genevieve said. "No," Skye responded. The maid entered with a broom. "I will clean it up," she offered. "No, Genevieve will," Dr. Collins said. The maid handed the broom to Genevieve. "Clean it up while we talk to Dr. Collins," Lorenzo instructed. "Yes, Daddy," Genevieve replied. Skye and Lorenzo went to talk. "Did Genevieve open up at all?" Skye asked. "No, and I don't think seeing me will help her," Dr. Collins responded. "I just want her to say those words," Skye said. "I know, but you can't make her," Dr. Collins advised. "Thanks for your help," Lorenzo added. Genevieve approached. "Dr. Collins, I have a question for you," she said. "Sure, what is it?" Dr. Collins asked. "Have you ever met Dr. Stephen Hawking?" Genevieve inquired. "No, I haven't, but I would like to," Dr. Collins replied. "Me too. He's the smartest person in the world," Genevieve said. "Yes, he is. It was good talking to you. If you want, you can talk to me anytime," Dr. Collins offered. "No, I'm good," Genevieve said. "I will walk you out," Lorenzo said, escorting Dr. Collins out. "So, what are you going to do now, Mother?" Genevieve asked. "Genevieve, I didn't mean to hurt you. I just want you to be somewhat of a normal child," Skye explained. "I'm sorry about the door, but it felt good to break the glass," Genevieve admitted. "Don't do it again," Skye warned. "Yes, Mother," Genevieve agreed, going upstairs as Lorenzo entered. "That didn't go well," Lorenzo commented. "No, I guess we will have a daughter who can't say 'I love you,'" Skye said. "Well, at least she's smart," Lorenzo said. "Yes, I've always wondered how we were lucky to have a child as smart as her," Skye agreed. Genevieve was in her room, looking outside when she saw a man outside and yelled. "What was that?" Lorenzo asked. "Genevieve!" Skye called out.
