Two small hands begin to shake her form. Y/n turns over, ignoring the boy's words. He groans and leans on her. "You wanna take a cat nap too?" She asks, peeking from her mask. T'challa, named after his father- smiles. "Mom said to wake you up!" "Did she?" Y/n yawns, turning to him. "Yes..?" She knew he was lying, but got up anyway, adjusting the ribbon wrapping her scalp. Y/n's kind was associated with these masks, the Kitsune. Her's was forged long ago, when they fell. She hadn't taken it off since, not in front of others that is. Though she could tell T'challa was confused at first, he had begun to get used to the fox faced woman and her ways. Not that she was traditional in any other way. She never was, a firefox that loved the ocean blue was unheard of. "Let's go ask her then." She pounces up with the young prince.

He takes her gloved hand. The other thing he had gotten used to. Red foxes were known for their tricks, their schemes, and Y/n had her fair share but from day one she knew it was much more than she ever wanted to do. Some jokes go too far. Breaking families, bonds, deeper than she would ever know felt wrong, her genetics felt wrong. Her gift was her hands. They never stopped scolding, burning. She still remembered the day her sister sewed her those gloves, magic edged into every fiber. The two walked through the greenery of the school. Until finding his mother, feeding the fish.

"Aw, wishing you were swimming with them?" Nakia said, with a welcoming smile. "Always. They have names you know." "Yeah, how is my son doing with his japanese?" Nakia had asked if Y/n could teach him, since it was her first language. She agreed, but didn't think he'd be as interested as he was. He picked it up quite fast, "たけのこ! Look mom, he grew." He runs up to the tank. Y/n joins him, "wow." Nakia crosses her arms, "What does it mean?" "Bamboo shoot. Doesn't he look like one?" She looks closer. "What's a bamboo shoot?" T'challa looks up at the fox.

She flicks her fingers, an illusion of a bamboo forest appears. A month ago he would have still been surprised, but she had fun showing the boy her illusions when given the chance. They walk through the fake bamboo of the hallway, until a field of shoot's come into view. "So they are like seeds?" She nods. "He does look like one!" He laughs, the illusion disappears into the windows of the school. "If only you appeared when he was a baby, it would've done wonders for my sleep." Nakia tilts him back towards the tank. Though for most it'd be obvious she wanted a minute alone with the fox, she ignored it and watched the fish with him.

Forcing Nakia to clear her throat. "Do it a bit louder, and then maybe I'll come over." She shakes her head. "I told you she wanted to talk to you!" "I never said that.." Y/n crossed her arms, "Told you." T'challa scoffs, "stop teaming up on me!" "Well once you get たけのこ to talk he can lie with you." That brings a smile to his face, as the two women go to the side. But just as Nakia opens her mouth, Y/n's ear twitches. She heard something. Rather someone at the water's edge. "What?" Nakia noticed the change in her friend. "Someone's here." Her sly persona wore off the moment she heard it.

Danger ahead. Unknown. Y/n wasn't ready for that life again. "T'challa, go to your auntie." "Who's-" "Now." He groans before running off in the way of his favorite teacher. "Where?" Y/n listens closer, "Beach. They're waiting. A few people." Nakia sighs, the water wasn't a good sign. Talokan's truce with Wakanda felt sharp, Nakia had killed a Talokan woman in Shuri's rescue. Maybe they were back for round two. "You're worried. Why are you worried?" Y/n spoke up, Nakia swallowed her doubt. "Y/n.. I know- when I found you- you were ready to rest.. But I must ask. For me- for T'challa.." Y/n cuts her off. "You really haven't done your research."

"Whoever it is at the bank.. Whoever swam that fast- that long.. Is water fluent. I'll cloak myself behind you. If anything goes wrong.. I'll take it from there. I promise I'm not rusty." Nakia smiles, "Thank you. I will call Shuri, in case she isn't on the way." Y/n adjusts her slick gloves,"Don't hold back on him. He won't do the same." Y/n nods,"this isn't the first man I've killed, and it won't be the last." Y/n wasn't afraid to kill for her, or T'challa. Her childhood was filled with terror, always running away from the thought of bloodspill. While every bone in her body was built for the act, thrived on it. "I don't think you've seen a man like this before." Y/n wasn't worried for herself, but for the life Nakia built here. She knew better than anyone what a single man could do. Powerful or not.
