CHAPTER FORTY FIVE !
^ ruby monroe

When estella woke up, she felt more refreshed than she had felt in so long. though everyone was still sleeping in the living room, she was actually sleeping properly, now. her body was properly fed and hydrated. she felt great. clean.

she got dressed and headed downstairs. she couldn't find daryl in the house, so she walked to the porch. it was no surprise for her to find daryl making more arrows as he sat on the fence around the porch.

"hey, dada." she said, sitting on one of the chairs.

"hey, esty. ya sleep alright?" he asked, she nodded.

"better than i did the night before. did you get some sleep?" she asked, he nodded, but she could tell he was lying.

"i heard ya made a friend." he said, raising an eyebrow.

"i think so. her name is ruby, deanna is her grandma. she said that she had video games, so she invited me over to her house to play and have lunch." estella told him.

"there ya go, ya fittin' in already." he said with a half smile.

"i want you to make some friends too, dada. you can't sit on the porch alone all the time." she said.

he slowly nodded his head. "i ain't good with people."

"maybe you should give yourself a try. you're not half as bad as you think you are. you're a lot nicer than you give yourself credit for. anyone would be lucky to have you as their friend. i don't think you should be afraid to fit in." she said.

"maybe i'll try. i don't need no more friends, i got you and the others. that's enough for me." he said.

"you can never have too many friends. just give it a shot, okay? you told me, and now i'm telling you." she said.

"all right. i'll think about it." he said, she smiled.

that's when carol came outside. estella raised her eyebrows at what the woman was wearing. she had on brown straight leg trousers with a white, floral collared blouse and a blue cardigan. she even had a little bit of makeup on her face. she looked weird. not carol like at all.

daryl seemed to notice it, too. his eyebrows raised as his face morphed into the exact same expression that estella's face held. the two of them looked beyond confused at her new look. she had been acting differently, too.
