He felt numb. A numbness he couldn't describe. Every time he returned back to his human form, numbness was all he felt. Almost like this world didn't seem real to him no more. That Pandora was his true home. Because when he returned into his true form, he couldn't wait to go back. To see Denahi. To be taught the way of her people.
"Eat something..." Grace told him. Since he had been taking too much time into his Avatar, he had forgotten to take time to care for himself. His true self. Grace cornered him before he took the chance to escape, dropping a plate of microwaved food. Jake's nose scrunched at the smell, being so used to the fresh feasts back in the forest.
"You have to keep this body healthy as well. I have told you this, Marine," Grace reminded Jake before handing him a knife and fork. He nodded his head before scoffing the food down like he didn't have time to waste, "Jesus. I know. I know."
Grace looked down at him in confusion. What had gotten into him? Her hand held onto her coffee-filled mug before bringing it to her lips and sipping the bitter liquid, "You gonna tell me what's wrong?"
Jake looked up at her, thinking if he should tell her or not. But, tell her what? Nothing is clear inside of his head anymore. The uncomfortable silence was suffering and Grace decided to have a guess, "Is it about Denahi?" Jake's jaw stopped chewing the meat within his mouth. Ah, she hit the spot.
His breathing stopped at just the mention of her name. His heart skipping a beat. Jake smiled before swallowing his food and looked outside the small window. Outside to the world he wish he could call home now. Or maybe he just wanted to see if Denahi had traveled this far so late at night. What was he thinking? All these emotions were starting to baffle Jake. He went into Pandora with a mission— a mission to get his human legs.
"What about Denahi?" The broken tone of his voice almost gave everything away. He couldn't even speak of her without getting nervous. Grace chuckled before taking another sip of coffee, "I see the way you look at her. And the way she looks at you. It's a dangerous game to be playing with her."
Dangerous game? Is his emotions a dangerous game now? "Is that what you see it like?" Jake asked Grace before throwing the disgraceful food into the bin, not caring about taken care of this body.
"Denahi is... impressionable, Jake. She always has been so easily influenced," Grace began to spoke. Jake seems to forget Grace knew Denahi a lot longer than he has. But, all Jake could think about was what Grace was accusing him of. Taking advantage of her.
That thought never even crossed his mind. Not for a single second. Yes, Denahi was somewhat naive when it came to humans. But, she was inquisitive. Her soul was pure and kind. She would welcome people with open arms as long as it didn't harm her.
"I wouldn't do anything to hurt her..." Jake told Grace almost immediately. He couldn't imagine even thinking about hurting her.
"I'm not saying you will, Marine," Grace replied, backing up her case. But the tone in her voice sounded like an argument. An aggressive tone that Jake had to stop, "I won't hurt Denahi, Grace." She smiled before pouring another cup of black coffee.
Grace then patted his shoulder, "Don't promise me that."
