YN stood there in a black dress, tracing the newly engraved letters in the stone in front of her with her eyes repeatedly. Everyone had left by that time. All went back to their everyday lives. Because why wouldn't they? The death of her mother didn't affect them the same way it had her. They were able to get up in the morning like every other morning with no problem.
YNN couldn't. If it hadn't been for Matt coming over to make sure she had gotten out of bed, she probably wouldn't have made it to the funeral. Damon and Stefan, both, held her shaking form throughout the service, out of the church, and as they watched as her mother was placed next to her father in the walls of the family tomb. It was hard enough for her to think about any of it the past few days. It was even harder to watch it all take place.
Were her friends there for her when she needed them the most? Of course, but she didn't expect them to stick around until they knew she was okay. She knew, all too well, that she would never be okay. The young girl would get through it just as she did everything else that had gone awry in her life. But now her entire family was dead, and she was the only one left. YN knew that knowledge would never settle well with her.
So, there she stood, alone, just staring at the stone plaque that read her parents' names, now together. The complete silence that surrounded her seemed so deafening. Nothing felt right to her anymore. And the one person she needed more than everyone else was nowhere to be found.
Or so she thought.
Out of nowhere, YN heard a stick break and leaves crunch under someone's feet somewhere behind her. Knowing that everyone had left a while beforehand, she quickly turned around to see who or what was coming up behind her. When she did so, she was met with the sad face of Mr. Tyler Lockwood, himself. She let go of the breath she didn't know she was holding. "Ty?"
"Hey, YNN." He said as he walked up beside her, holding a single white rose. "I... um... I tried to get here earlier, tried to be at the church in enough time, but traffic wouldn't let up for anything."
The young girl stayed silent at his confession but gave him a small understanding nod before turning back around to her parents' graves. Tyler knelt down and placed the rose at the base of the wall in front of them before rising again and wrapping his around the YLN girl, pulling her to his side. For a moment, YN didn't move but soon she was holding onto him like her life depended on it, just as she had done to Stefan during the service just hours before.
They stood there for a while longer in the silence of the tomb. Neither one made any notion to move. He knew this was hard for her. He'd been through it himself. So, he would stand there, holding her for however long she needed him to with no objection.
Another twenty minutes went by before YNN finally looked up at him. "Thank you." She said, her voice sounding so small compared to the lively and energetic one he was used to hearing from her.
Tyler gave her a small, sad smile and kissed her head. "You're welcome, baby." He said as he wrapped his other arm around her. "I tried to call you to let you know I was coming."
"I didn't hear my phone ring, I'm sorry." She apologized sadly.
"Don't be. You wouldn't have known anyway. Matt said Damon has it." The Lockwood boy explained and began to run his hands gently up and down her back.
"Oh... yeah... He took it from me the other day. Said I didn't need to hear the 'I'm sorry for your loss' phone calls right now." She said as she remembered her conversation with the oldest Salvatore brother a couple of days ago. "The days are running together at this point. To be honest, I don't even know if I have remembered to eat this entire time."
"You don't have to explain anything to me, YNN. It's okay if you don't remember. Right now, it's not your job. All you have to do is grieve. Let us take care of the rest." He said and gave her a slight squeeze. "But to answer your unasked question, Matt did say he was able to get a little bit of breakfast in you this morning before you guys headed to the service."
For the first time in a week, YN let out a small giggle. "Well, I guess that's better than nothing."
They stood there for another moment or two, his hold on her never faltering. This was what she had been needing for a long time. Just her boyfriend to hold her for a while to ensure her not everything was falling apart, and she still had him. Now that he was actually there, the young YLN girl felt as if the two-ton brick on her shoulders, weighing her down, wasn't as heavy anymore.
YN looked up at Tyler again and then asked, "Can you take me home now? Stefan said something about making Alfredo for dinner and it honestly sounds really good right about now."
The Lockwood boy chuckled a bit then nodded. "Yeah, baby. Let's go home."
With that, the two left the tomb and headed towards his car. As they did, YN watched as two butterflies flew past the entrance right before they stepped out and she smiled.
Maybe she would be okay after all.
