James

"James!" My mother yelled.

My eyes shot open and I sat up quickly hearing the alarm in her voice. I jumped off the bed and grabbed my wand before running down the staircase. Once I got to the living room I froze seeing my parents kneeled down over a body.

"Who is that?" I asked scared to even find out for myself.

Mom had tears streaming down her face and father got up in frustration. I walked over and saw Sirius bloodied up barely breathing.

"Sirius!" I yelled falling to my knees. "W-what- what happened-"

"We don't know darling-"

"He looks dead- is he going to be ok-"

"Stay here with him I'll get my healing potions," mother said and quickly got to her feet.

"Padfoot we're going to take care of you. I promise," I cried trembling, holding onto his hand tighter by the second.

Mother returned and Father picked me up to move back and give her space. I covered my mouth and mother opened his shirt to run diagnostics on his body.

"Shit he's barely breathing- he has broken ribs and a collapsed lung- fuck what did they to him?" Mother cried while she desperately made whatever necessary potions.

Father kneeled next to her and began working as well. Tears were coming down my face and I was shaking. He couldn't- fuck we were arguing he can't die on me.

After a long hour of my parents working on him Sirius was stabilized.

"James. Now is the time to tell us anything you know," Father said.

"I- I think- I think they tried to initiate him into the cult," I said staring at Sirius.

"And how do you know this?" Mother asked.

"He- he was making amends with his family. Him and- him and Samantha- they- they were following pureblood customs and they mentioned how interested in their power they were. We knew his family were following the guy behind the attacks."

"Shit James. He's lucky to be alive right now," Mother sighed.

"Is he- is he going to be ok?" I asked.

"Yes. He's stable. But the recovery is going to take a very long time."

"He can't leave- he can't go back-"

"He came with a bag. There was a note. Signed R.A.B," Father sighed.

"What did it say? That's- that's his brother regulus."

"That he can't return. And he won't. We'll take him in James. If that's what you want," Mother said.

"Of course- he can't go back mom. He can't."

I walked down the stairs thirsty for a cup of water. It's been hard to sleep with everything going on. Sirius has been in and out of sleep for days but not for more than a minute while mother and father have been looking for ways to adopt him.
