With Jace missing, the institute was in chaos. Alec was determined to get Jace back as soon as possible with him giving orders every time he saw somebody doing nothing. Hope was with Clary and Hayden catching up and filling in Jocelyn about everything that had happened. Hope was just glad that her second mother was okay and safe and she needed to be.
"Mom," Clary spoke to her mother
"My sweet girls! Hayden!" Jocelyn cheered when she saw the kids
"I never thought I'd see you again," Clary admitted as they all pulled away
"I'm so sorry, I never meant for any of this to happen and all I ever wanted to do was to protect you," Jocelyn rambled on
"I know but I'm not a kid anymore and you don't have to protect me," Clary added to her mother
"Yes, I do," Jocelyn deadpanned with a look
"By telling me lies?" Clary asked with a scoff
"Clary," Hope mumbled looking at her
"It's my life, I had a right to know," Clary scolded with a scoff
"I was scared," Jocelyn admitted not looking up
"Because you married a psychopath, My father," Clary reminded in a low voice
"Oh, Clary, your father, he wasn't always like this," Jocelyn admitted in a soft tone
"I deserved to know who I really am," Clary scolded the older woman
"I know and I promise from now on, no more lies," Jocelyn spoke with a nod
"Okay, we have something for you," Hayden added handing Clary the box
"Where did you get this?" Jocelyn asked looking at the box
"Under the floorboards, when I was a little kid and I couldn't sleep, I used to watch you take it out and cry over it in your bedroom. I used to think it was about my father, but now I know it's about my brother," Clary explained to her mother
"Jonathan," Jocelyn added as Hope shook her head
"His name is Jace and he's alive," Hope corrected her mother figure
"That's impossible and you don't understand, I saw them burn," Jocelyn stated making them all share a look
"Sorry, I just wanted to make sure everything was okay," Luke spoke as he walked in
"Luke," Jocelyn whispered when she saw him
"Are you all right?" Luke questioned walking up to her
"Is it true? Is Jonathan alive?" Jocelyn questioned the alpha
"I couldn't believe it either at first," Luke added in response
"Hey, Mrs. F, good to see you on your feet again, you look great considering the coma situation," Simon joked around as he walked in
"What're you doing here?" Jocelyn asked looking at the three
"It's kind of a long story so, um, a lot happened while you were away," Hayden explained with a chuckle
"Yeah," Simon whispered in agreement
"Like what? You're a vampire, you seem to be a non-official werewolf, and you are in love," Jocelyn pointed out to the three
Clary and the others took off running to the center after she got a text saying they were having a meeting, Hope had stayed back since she wasn't a shadow hunter. She was sitting in the hallway waiting for people to come out so she knew she was allowed to go find her friends again
"You are allowed in there," Alec spoke as he sat down next to her
"I'm not a shadow hunter and I'm already on your mom's bad side," Hope explained to the boy
"Listen, I know that we haven't had time to talk about what is going on between us now but I promise you that we will talk about it sometime, hopefully once we get Jace back," Alec explained making her nod
"You're worried about Jace, I get it so take your time," Hope told him making him smile
"No rash decisions," Alec agreed before she sighed
"However, you didn't risk anything for me, you did it for you," Hope added before he started to respond
"Who sounded the alarm?" Alec asked once they heard the sound
"What's going on?" Hope asked following after him
"Oh, no, Jace, Aldertree said he wanted to rescue Jace," Clary spoke when they saw the hologram
"Clary, I said I wanted to find him and you gave me the clue I needed to do just that," Aldertree stated as he walked in
"What did you tell him?" Alec scolded the Fairchild
"Is this everyone? Fantastic, first up, all Downworlders are forbidden from entering the Institute without my prior approval for those still present, good day. Mr. Graymark..." Aldertree added before Luke scoffed
"I'm not leaving Jocelyn besides, my badge gives access to resources that you don't have, I can help you find Jace," Luke convinced the man
"That's generous of you, but I'm going to have to insist," Aldertree reminded the older man
"Call me when you can," Luke stated before walking out
"You, too, Simon, right?" Aldertree questioned the young vampire
"It's almost dawn, I don't have anywhere to go," Simon added with a scoff
"Hey, you're a smart guy, I'm sure you'll figure something out," Aldertree remarked before Hayden walked over to him
"Simon, come on," Hayden spoke as he was leaving
"Stay safe, think clearly," Hope whispered to Alec before following
Alec nodded before watching her walk away, Hope had gone home for the night only for her to go right back to the institute the next day. She knocked on Alec's door before he opened it, she wanted to talk to him and nip it in the bud so it didn't cause more problems for them in the future.
"You were right when I called off my wedding, that was for me but this is all just it's very new," Alec admitted as she chuckled
"This may surprise you, but you're new to me, too," Hope added to the boy
"Look, with Jace missing, it's just like the ground has shifted, and I can't keep my balance, I didn't mean to take it out on you, I'm sorry," Alec explained as she nodded her head
"You're forgiven, also, you're great at apologies," Hope joked with a smile
"Thanks, I've been working on it," Alec charmed with a small smile
"Here's the thing, we're always going to face challenges ao, when things get crazy, don't push me away," Hope added making him nod
Alec nodded his head before wrapping his arms around her, Hope felt at peace in his arms which made her feel weird but comforted at the same time. She thought about how Jocelyn said she was in love which made her question if she was or not.
