𝗧𝘄𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘆-𝗡𝗶𝗻𝗲, 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

Hope was supposed to meet Alec for lunch since they hadn't been on a date for a while, she was told that he was in his office making her walk in there but she had seen him and his dad talking so she just stood in the doorway not wanting to interrupt them talking

"Well, I appreciate the help but don't you think this makes up for what you did to Mom," Alec remarked to his father

"Alec, your mother and I have always had a complicated relationship," Robert convinced his son

"It's not complicated, you cheated on her. There's a reason she returned to Idris as soon as you got here," Alec explained with a sigh

I made a mistake but I never meant to hurt you but I fell in love, You of all people should know what that's like..." Robert trailed off before Alec scoffed

"Hope isn't an affair," Alec defended the blonde

"I shouldn't have said anything," Robert mumbled as Alec nodded his head

"We can argue all about family drama once we find Valentine, but until then, I have an Institute to run," Alec spoke not looking away

"Alec..." Robert started before Alec held his hand up

"You can go," Alec stated before Hope walked in

"Robert," Hope greeted the man with a warm smile

"Hope," Robert greeted before leaving

"That looked and sounded like it was fun," Hope joked with a chuckle

"Just another day in the Lightwood family," Alec joked in return

"I'm sure that you'll work a little out while he's here," Hope said as she wrapped her arms around his neck

"I don't think that we could ever work this out," Alec stated in a soft tone

"Either way, he should be glad that you are even talking and working with him," Hope commented making him nod

"You know, we got some time to kill," Alec whispered as he pulled her into his lap

"We cannot do this here, what if someone walks in?" Hope questioned in a hushed tone

"The door locks," Alec simply said making her roll her eyes

"What about lunch?" Hope asked in return

"Late lunch," Alec stated before kissing her neck

"Okay fine but if we get caught, I'm blaming it all on you," Hope remarked before kissing him

Alec stood up which prompted her to wrap her legs around him as he walked to lock the door and then placed her down on the couch, she pulled off the shirt he was wearing before tossing it onto the ground beside them. Hope loved seeing all of his runes, she couldn't tell why she loved them but she just did.

"Honestly, as long as Dad apologizes to Max, I don't care what the fire messages said," Alec stated to Izzy as they walked

"I know you're still upset about the whole affair but think about it, Valentine escaped under our watch, and yet Dad somehow convinced the Inquisitor to let you keep your job? What leverage could he possibly have to do something like that? Did he say anything?" Izzy asked in a hushed voice

"Not really, he said he was in love," Alec responded with a wince

"Are you okay?" Izzy asked as she was concerned for her brother

"Something's wrong with Jace," Alec responded making them all share a look

"By the angel," Izzy commented as they walked to his room

"What the hell?" Hope asked as she was confused

"What happened here?" Izzy questioned looking around

"Is that a lake? What are these things?" Alec asked looking at the broken glass

"They look like portal shards," Izzy explained taking it from him

"So Jace and Clary are at this beach?" Hope asked as she looked at it

"Assuming they went through together but none of it makes sense, how were they able to create a portal inside the Institute?" Izzy questioned in return

"Clearly, it wasn't a normal portal, whatever it was, there's something strange about the portal for the wards not to recognize it," Robert spoke as he walked in

"That should explain these," Izzy stated showing the glass

"This isn't a beach, it's Lake Lyn," Robert stated making Alec look at him

"The Lake Lyn? How can you tell?" Alec asked his father

"Because Jace requested a portal to Idris this morning, he thought he might have a lead on Valentine, but the Clave denied it," Robert admitted to his kids

"It seems like he went anyway," Izzy added crossing her arms

"We need to help him, you have to get that portal approved," Alec reminded the man

"I'll try my best, but the Clave..." Robert started before Alec spoke up

"I don't care what the Clave says, Jace is in trouble," Alec warned the older man

"I agree, but as long as you're acting head of this Institute, you need to remain here," Robert directed the shadowhunters

"Jace is family, you can't expect Alec to abandon his parabatai," Hope defended the boys

"No, Dad's right, I need to put the Institute first. Listen, I'm not abandoning anyone, I'm sending my best Shadowhunter to go and rescue them," Alec explained to his sister

"Get me a portal to Idris," Izzy stated to her father

"I will but there's something you should know about this Lake," Robert warned before going on to explain

Hope looked between the Lightwoods as he was explaining, she wanted to help but she knew that there was nothing she could do since she wasn't like them. Izzy had gone in after he was done explaining, Hope had gone home on the terms that Alec calls and tells her when they all get back safely.
