After they had almost grabbed Jace back from Valentine, they all came walking back into the institute where Clary was upset with her mother. Hope and Hayden rushed after thier adopted mother and sister to see what was going on.
"Clary, stop!" Jocelyn pleaded with her daughter
"What is wrong with you? We almost had him back," Clary scolded her mother
"You don't understand," Jocelyn scolded the girl
"You're right, I don't understand why you would try to kill my brother," Clary remarked in a loud manner
"Because your brother, he's not who you think he is. Honey, there's still so much you don't know," Jocelyn added in a soft tone
"Oh, and whose fault is that? Everyone says that Valentine is the monster, but you just tried to murder your son!" Clary shouted at her mother
"Hey, maybe we should take a deep breath and relax," Hope whispered to her best friend
"Hope, Hayden, give us some space, please," Jocelyn asked looking at her adoptive daughter
"Sure thing, Momma," Hope spoke starting to walk out
"No, you're not going anywhere, you're the only person I can trust right now," Clary admitted with stress
"I want you to know I'm a victim here, too. We all are, when I was pregnant with your brother, Valentine drugged me and he experimented on the baby. He injected Jonathan with demon blood," Jocelyn explained as Clary shook her head
"Why would he do that?" Clary questioned as she crossed her arms
"He's sick and he thought demon blood would make our unborn child strong and it did but it also made him evil," Jocelyn added as Hayden scoffed
"No, even if that's true, Downworlders have demon blood, they're not all bad," Hayden defended his best friend
"Clary, you have no idea how much I loved your brother. He was my baby boy and I didn't want to believe it until I saw what he was capable of it wasn't the last time something like that happened," Jocelyn spoke turning back to her daughter
Hope went back home with Clary as Hope had found out that Alec had yelled at Clary and blamed her which made her upset but she understood that he was hurting and just wanted his brother back.
"Hey, kiddos, you have to come back to the Institute. It's not safe," Luke spoke as he walked in
"So, wait, are you on her side now?" Clary questioned the alpha
"There are no sides," Hayden deadpanned to the girl
"So you're okay with her trying to kill Jace?" Hope asked crossing her arms
"I didn't say that but your mother's right, you need to get back to the Institute," Luke directed the girls
"I can't help Jace. I don't have enough training and even if I did, I'm Valentine's daughter. Nobody there trusts me and for 18 years, you made me believe that I could live a normal life. This life but I can't, can I? No, cause I'm not mundane and I'm not a Shadowhunter, I'm not anything. Dot? We thought you were dead, what happened to you?" Clary asked with concern
"Dot, what's going on?" Hope asked looking at the woman
"Clary! No!" Luke shouted but went ignored as she went with
"Where did she go to?" Hope asked looking around
"I'll tell Jocelyn," Luke stated before Hope scoffed
"You two cannot go running off together all the time when something like this is going on, everyone here has a role, you and Hayden are with the wolves, Simon is a vampire and Clary is a shadowhunter but I'm just human and you guys seem to forget that I am here too," Hope ranted making them soften
"We don't forget about you," Luke started as Hayden nodded
"We just care about you," Hayden added earning a nod
"I wanna be able to help," Hope admitted making them sigh
"Okay, we'll figure something out but right now let's worry about Clary," Luke explained making her nod her head
Once they arrived at the compound she had agreed to sit out of this one as they didn't know what she should do since she didn't have any special powers or anything like that. Hayden was an expectation since he had been training with the wolves more and was learning some things along with that.
