"I don't like the extra p and e at the end of shop. Get rid of it!" Luke exclaimed, pointing at Taylor's sign.

"No!" He gasped, as if it was an utterly ridiculous request.

"I'm your landlord, Taylor." Luke replied, his arms crossing. "And as a tenant, I have rights—"

"Should we save him?" Rory asked, looking at Sage from the opposite side of their mom. The girl sighed, "potentially."

Rory smiled, looking back. "Hey, Luke!"

His head turned in their direction, his eyes quickly widening. "Rory? Sage?" The two smiled, walking up to him. He moved away from Taylor, ignoring his pleas about his human rights or whatever.

Luke wrapped his arms around Sage and Rory, his head resting on top of theirs. "I've missed you two, even with your mom I've been low on customers."

Rory laughed, while her sister just shook her head. "You owe everything to us, old man. You'd be a goner if it weren't for our continuous support." She teased, as they all pulled away.

Luke looked at Sage, his eyes shinning. "I would, indeed."

Rory ended up quickly saying bye and running off to Dean. Sage, however, chose to stay with Luke. "You know," Sage said, tugging on his arm and pulling him to the diner. "I am in desperate need of some good coffee."

He laughed, holding open the door for her. "Well, then I guess it's good I just so happen to have some ready for you."

"Extra strong?" She asked.

He nodded, "with two teaspoons of vanilla and a dash of cinnamon."

Sage gasped, her lips pulling into a smile. "You know me so well."

"After all these years," he said, "I'd be concerned if I didn't." Sage tilted her head to the side, smiling. "That makes two of us."

He poured the coffee, adding the vanilla and cinnamon, before handing the cup to her. Luke's was technically closed at the moment, but neither of them cared all the much.

"How you doing anyways, kid?"

Sage shrugged, pulling her hair out of the messy bun it had previous been thrown up into. "Not bad. Busy, but not bad."

"School?" Luke asked, moving from behind the counter to sit besides her.

"Going great, all one hundred percents so far." She replied. "That's my girl," he nodded, giving her a high five.

Sage would be lying if she said the praise didn't struck a particular cord inside her chest it always did when someone older told her good job about literally anything.

"Your sister?"

"Annoying as ever, but good. She's been spending a lot of time with Dean, it's almost sickening." Sage explained.

Luke smiled, "I get that. Your mom?"

"Also good, which you would know from how many times you look at her." She teased, watching him roll his eyes and proceeding to ignore it.

She took a drink of her coffee, the two of them sitting in a comfortable silence for a few minutes. It felt nice, she hadn't really had much chance to be alone these last few weeks, and even though she wasn't alone now, it felt peaceful for once.

"How is everything with you?"

Luke paused, his eyes meeting hers, "you mean how's Jess?"

Sage bit her lip, looking down. "Maybe."

He exhaled, his demeanor softening. "He seems good. Not as—I don't know, himself I guess, as he was," with you, Luke wanted to say. "But he's okay, Sage, I promise."

She looked back up at him, "yeah?" Luke nodded, "he hasn't gotten into too much trouble, minus that girl," he muttered the last part, making Sage laugh.

"Not a fan?" She asked.

She's not you, Luke thought. So yeah, definitely not a fan.

"Just not the type of girl I think he should be around, that's all." He chose to say instead, his chest tightening.

Sage knew exactly what he meant by that, but she couldn't bring herself to let the words sink it. "He'll be fine, Luke." She said, taking a breath. "He will, I promise."

Luke nodded, his eyes landing on the counter.

Sage knew he only wanted what was best for Jess
and in his mind, that happened to be Sage. But she couldn't, not this time—at least not yet. She needed time and so did he. Jumping into anything right now would just hurt them both, and she didn't want to do that again.

"Get this coffee ready for me tomorrow, yeah?" Sage asked, pulling a smile onto her face.

Luke looked at her, "always, kid."
