"Perfect...This is where you should belong" he spoke, the smell of cocaine, hit my nose "Down there. You should know your place and don't try to act all feisty Maria...." the way he called my name had a pattern "People like us are far above people like you..... And no matter how tough you act, in the end, you will remain down there" for the first time in a very long time. A person's words hurt me. It made me remember the painful reality. No matter the effort, sleepless nights, countless jobs and endless study. I will remain down here, looking up to them.
Hurt but could not let my guard down, I shouldn't let them see me weak or see that I can be broken "Are you done?" I asked, looking straight into his eyes
"Pardon?" totally stunned at my response. I guess he really expected me to break. But I can't do that, I have no time for that
"I said earlier that I am busy... I need to get to work. You guys are not worth my time please" I pulled the bag out of his foot and began dusting it
"Did she.... did she just say we are not worth her time?'' Cassandra stepped forward, boiling in anger "We are not worth your time?" still in shock
"Yeah.. not like I can get money from all this"
"Wow... I guess you are swimming in poverty" Victor said while walking up to me and dragging my bag out of my grip. I didn't expect it
"What the fuck?" Trying my best to remain calm "give it back"
"Beg for it," he said while he opened it and began searching the bag "There is not even a single valuable thing in here" he mocked
"She is too brock to own something of valuable Victor.. don't be stupid" Sara said while she walked forward to join him
"A broke-ass psychopath. No wonder she is a slut at a club and is probably in a hurry to get to work because she got a whole bunch of guys waiting up in line to fuck her" Max mocked "I should probably sign up as well" Everyone laughed
"you will surely get STD," Cassandra said as she walked forward
"oh.. what is this" Victor took out my purse, and I instantly became alarmed. The only money I have left for the day is in that purse and I need it to take a bus to work. My boss will surely get mad at me.
"Give that back" I hurried up to him about to grab the purse but he dodged while everyone laughed
"Finally we got you" Cassandra spoke in the middle of her laugh
"what is in here?" He opened it and took out the money while I went after him, following him in circles "Wow... only 5 Dollars.. that is disappointing"
"I said give it back..."
"What are you going to do... cry?" Lucas mucked
"Fuck you .. give it back" I yelled. And out of nowhere, someone snatched the money out of Victor's hand. The place went silent. I turned and before me stood that full 6-foot, good-looking figure. His looks don't match his personality
"Let all act civil guys" he said to them "We shouldn't bring ourselves down to her level let be the bigger person here" I wasn't interested in his speech or whatever he called me. He should just give me my purse back
"hey.. give it back" trying to keep myself under control
"So money is the secret?" He flashed me that smile "Why am I not surprised... You poor thing" I watched him take out his wallet and open it. The smell of new cash hit my nose. "You see, the difference between you and us... is that" he used his ring fingers to take out all the case and added it to my own "You need us to survive" Just like that he threw the money on my face and everything came purring down. There was silence for a long while. This wasn't the first time money was thrown at me and I will do the same thing that I always do. I bent down and began picking up the money
