'' Your Five minutes are up'' Logan's voice interrupted angrily. Taking me aback by his sudden appearance. At the entrance of the pool area. He stood leaning against the wall, obviously, he had been watching the whole thing in silence and the sight of Alex irritated him. '' Your time is up so leave''
'' Hey bro'' Alex turned to face him '' I was just about to go see you'' He stared at Logan, puzzled, probably wondering what caused his injury '' did you get into a fight or something?'' concern flooded his tone
'' Fuck off Alex and don't bother inviting me to the party. I wouldn't show''
'' I see'' Disappointment flashed in his eyes. '' Maria'' he turns to me '' you would make time for me right?''
'' she said she is busy'' Logan pushed himself away from the wall and walked to stand close to us '' She wouldn't show as well'' I found myself frowning at his words. What gave him the right to speak for me
'' You are not Maria, Logan'' Alex spoke angrily. A rear tone coming from him
'' Maria, get inside'' Logan spoke with authority making me raise an eyebrow
'' seriously?'' I let out with a frown.
'' Maria?'' Alex called with a hopeful tone
'' Alex get out before I use force to send you out''
'' I will come'' I announced and Logan looked at me in shock, anger in his eyes.
'' Oh'' Victory smile '' I will be expecting you then''
'' give me your phone'' I tell him and in confusion, he takes out the phone from his pocket and hands it to me. I dialled my phone number and gave it back to him ''My number, so you won't always have to come looking for me''. The smile on his face brightened making me smile as well
'' I will text you the location''
'' you do that.''
'' see you at school tomorrow'' Alex turned to Logan who tried desperately to keep his cool "See you around bro'' with that Alex made his exit
'' You are not seriously going are you?'' he snapped instantly not caring if Alex could still hear us.
'' Why can't I? Just because you have issues with him, doesn't mean you can get me involved''
'' You are busy with work'' he repeated my words
'' I will take a day off, I am sure one wouldn't kill''
'' You do realize I can take away this job'' I rolled my eyes in frustration. Once again, I thought we had gone past that stage. I thought wrong
'' Fine... if attending this party will get you so mad that you will take away my job then fine, take it''
'' I thought you hated wasting your time on such'' his jaw hardened as he spoke
'' I do, but Alex is my friend and one can make an exception for a good friend every once in a while'' slowly his face relaxed almost as if that anger had faded and was replaced with something else
'' friends'' the words escaped his lips weakly while in deep thought '' You smile with your friends and you give them free time''
''Yes... now if you would excuse me, I don't have much time at hand'' I went back to mopping the floor.
**********
It was 8 pm when Logan asked for his coffee. I took it as my last job for the night. This time, it wasn't to his room but the library. When I arrived I saw his studying. Book plied on the formal table, focused. He acknowledged my presence but didn't look at me and I didn't mind. I placed the coffee on the table and my eyes fell on his face, studying his injuries. Why was I concerned? '' I can feel your gaze Maria... it is distracting'' he spoke
'' did you go to the hospital?''
''For what?'' asked the obvious '' I happen to have a fine doctor in my possession so what is the need for a hospital'' I frowned. Maybe I was concerned because I could relate to his situation '' I don't want to believe that you are worried about me Maria''
''And what if I am'' he paused at his writing and finally lifted his head to look at me. Scanning me for answers that will forever remain mysteries
''Why?'' it came out soft and shocking and I fell into silence with no answer. I had no idea why I was worried. Is this guilt?
'' You are too young to be taking so much coffee, Logan.'' I changed the topic ''but as long as it keeps my job I won't stop you''
''That sounds so like you Maria'' He went back to writing. '' I use it to keep myself active, so I can study''
'' I believe you are smart enough not to study this much''
'' and this is where that belief got me'' he faked a smile. Even with his head tilted down I saw the way it was replaced with a frown. I knew exactly what he was talking about '' I noticed that If I didn't want to end up in this mess a second time, I got to beat you in the final exams'' is it right for me to feel guilty? '' and it some how takes my mind off things''
'' true...'' I nod in agreement
'' Like I said Maria, you are distracting. I am sure you have a party to prepare for'' almost sounding hash while I rolled my eyes about to leave. I gave him one final look. Logan, a teenage boy from a powerful family filled with pride, authority, wealth, and beauty. But behind these perfections are scars that he tries too hard to cover up. he was a lot like me but the jerker version
'' Logan?'' he grumbled while lifting his head to flash a deadly stared but I didn't mind. ''Books do help to get the mind off things but I think I have something better''
'' I didn't ask for your help Maria''
'' Are you willing to drive tonight?'' I ignored his words and asked
'' What?''
'' Are you willing to drive us somewhere?'' I asked again. Logan stared at me in silence, puzzled and I think I noticed a sign of joy in his eyes as well
